Why not link to the original story from the Daily News rather than some dude's blog?

Take a moment, Acuphet, to delve deeper into the news rather than be just another post whore.

Thanks to Josdin for the awesome sig!

That would be impossible, just the thought of it makes me want to take another shower.

    UNION TAKES AIM AT RETIREES
    pft.com

At a time when more and more attention is being focused on the plight of many former NFL players who helped make the game what it is today, the NFL Players Association has decided to deal with the problem not by fixing it, but by getting those who are complaining about it to shut their mouths.

Per the Baltimore Sun, a March 30 memo sent by NFLPA director of retired players Andre Collins threatened to dissolve any chapter of retired players deemed guilty of conduct detrimental to the union's best interests.

Said Bruce Laird, the president of the chapter of former Baltimore Colts players, "I think it's a warning over the bow that if . . . other people want to speak out for representation in the NFL, it's looked upon unfavorably."

In his memo, Collins said that financial problems of retirees "stemmed from players making poor pension decisions before they had reached full retirement age," and not due to a lack of union support.

Per the NFLPA web site, there currently are 35 chapters of retired players.
Membership to the NFLPA Retired Players Association is available to all former players who cough up $100 per year for dues.

The application should be amended to expressly require the signature of a loyalty oath.
    In blood.

And just what are the retired players getting for their $100?
The right to be seen but never heard?
The right to have a voice, as long as it's the right voice?

The NFLPA has done a lot of very good things for its constituents.
The overall financial package for current players is stellar, and most of the players enjoy real free agency.

But it's very easy for people to overlook the positives when the handful of negatives is so glaring.
