League considers moving game to avoid GOP conflict

NEW YORK (AP) -- The NFL is considering starting its Thursday night season opener an hour-and-a-half earlier to avoid clashing with the Republican National Convention.
The game, in which the Super Bowl-champion New York Giants will be the home team, now is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. EDT on Sept. 4 and will be televised by NBC. League spokesman Greg Aiello said Wednesday that the NFL is talking with the network about changing the game's starting time to 7 p.m.
Sept. 4 also is the concluding night of the Republican convention.
Thanks to Josdin for the awesome sig!

Re: NFL opener may clash with Republican Convention
I read that somewhere also. They want to be able to have the game finished before McCain give his speech during the 10:00 hour (eastern).

Re: NFL opener may clash with Republican Convention
Forget that.
If the NFL is worried about ratings I could almost understand(although against the republican convention I don't think they have to worry).
I'm guessing it's NBC more worried about NBC's viewers being able to see the silly convention.
Well NBC signed the deal with the NFL and if they don't like it they can geeeeeet out.
Or plan things better, either way.

I hope the game ends in a tie and goes way past the convention.
