Re: NFL HOF Class of 2010 semifinalists announced

How many rings is equal to stats, this is no more obvious with Terrell Davis making the semi-finals list, 2 good & 1 great years out of only 8, 3 probowls, but 2 rings.
Also, Roger Craig who had only THREE 1000+ rushing years out of 11 seasons, but 3 rings too. Without the rings they wouldn't really be considered.

Rice and Emmett are 1st rounders their stats and rings

I think Paul Tagliabue will make it because of who he is and what he did.

Shannon Sharpe may get in because he's #2 (815) in receptions for a TE, has 10,060 yds, and RINGS

    Vikes:

Cris has more visability being on ESPN for voters, but I still don't think he will make it this year regardless of how he impacted the game... no rings

Chris Doleman should be in by now, Chris ranks #3 (21) in single season and #4 (150.5) in career sacks , 8 double digit sack seasons, 8 probowls, 914 tkls, BUT NO RING.
A ring would have made him a 1st rounder.

Randle has great stats as a DT, but .....

Some incredible players on this list, including 3 Vikings:
    4 Vikings.
Roger Craig played for the Vikings in the '92 and '93 seasons.

Damn bandwagon fans have no idea about the history of the team.

Here's who I think will make it:

The complete list of 25 modern-era semifinalists is as follows:

Cris Carter, WR – 1987-89 Philadelphia Eagles, 1990-2001 Minnesota Vikings, 2002 Miami Dolphins
    Dermontti Dawson, C – 1988-2000 Pittsburgh Steelers
Jerry Rice, WR – 1985-2000 San Francisco 49ers, 2001-04 Oakland Raiders, 2004 Seattle Seahawks
Emmitt Smith, RB – 1990-2002 Dallas Cowboys, 2003-04 Arizona Cardinals
Paul Tagliabue, Commissioner – 1989-2006 National Football League
I was torn between Dawson and Grimm, so, that one's a toss-up.

Remember - only FIVE of the 25 semi-finalists can be elected.
The class can be up to 7 players, but only if the 2 senior committee nominees (Dick Lebeau and Floyd Little) are both selected.

    <rant>
There is no way in hell that a dude like Floyd Little should get into the Hall of Fame before Mick Tingelhoff.
Little had a 9-year career where he was All-Pro ONE time and went over 1000 yards rushing ONE time (when 1000 yards meant something).
Meanwhile, Mick had a SEVENTEEN year career where he NEVER missed a start and was an All-Pro FIVE times.
He was also undrafted, which I think is amazing.
The Senior Committee is a joke.

I thought it was only one senior nominee could be elected, leaving 6 players to be elected..

Lebeau definitely should be in, though.

Otherwise, it'd be hard to turn down your list.

    • A maximum of seven can earn entry into the Hall -- five from the 15 standard candidates, and two from the Seniors. Of the 15 modern-era guys, two are locks -- Emmitt Smith and Jerry Rice. That leaves three spots for the other 23 semifinalists, and that means a lot of impassioned speeches will fall short this Hall season.

The Seniors men have a much easier road to election, particularly this year. The 44 voters hear their cases, then vote yea or nay separately on both; an 80 percent yea vote would put Little and/or LeBeau in. The 15 modern-era candidates get funneled in a voting process down to five, then each is voted on individually and must get the same 80-percent to make it.

Am I the only one who's rooting for Steve Tasker? And Ray Guy? I don't care if they where 'just' special teamers. They where the absolute best at what they did. And that's more than can be said for a lot of people on this list.

Looking at that list and seeing Shannon on there always makes me feel a little sad about how Sterling's career ended. That he's being considered for the HoF after his relatively short career speaks volumes, though. (Not final 25, but still)

Now that Sterling is a NFL network analyst, I'll agree that he was one impressive cat when playing.
He was at his peak when he got the career ending injury.

He is one heck of a analyst.

    I hate no one.
I just don't like how he ground his axe over the whole Pepp thing.

IMHO, that long-time Vikings great, should've respected the organization that gave him another chance instead of the doing the crap he's done of late.

Re: NFL HOF Class of 2010 semifinalists announced

    Me thinks.......

    Rice : Best Reciever Ever
    Smith: Rings, and records
Carter: Best set of hands ever
Tagliabue: The NFL is what it is today thanks to him
Hayes: Epitome of the Raiders in their hey day

Dawson went to my high school in Lex, KY. He works with my wife at UK. He's a good guy.
I've been a Viking fan since I was just out of diapers, hopefully we get Super Bowl win before I go back in 'em.
