I think they should have kept Millen.
Yes, that would have guaranteed them the cellar for another 3-5 years.
My vote would be for Smith, Sparano, Fisher or Dungy.
Dungy hasn't really done much this year?
Of course Dungy is a great coach, but his team is having a down year (I wish a down year for the vikings was a whole 4 losses)
This often goes to a team that comes out of nowhere to win, or a team that exceeds expectations...
for example, the Bears a few years ago.

They're 6-0 the past 6 games.... not to mention all the injuries the Colts have suffered on both sides of the ball.
This is nothing like saying Birk or Sharper should be in the probowl every year... Nothing. Dungy actually produces year in and year out.Disclaimer: I'm an idiot.

Re: NFL Coach of the Year
I agree he could not really win it. I guess it was more of apperciation for not giving up on the task at hand.
It would be easy for Rod to whine and say it was Millen's fault.
It would probaly come down to ATL or MIA coaches.

Mike Smith...although...god I hate the Dolphins...Saprano (sp?) has really surprised me.
We can blame him for the wildcat hype this year.
So...Mike Smith

So if you have a solid team you should not be in the discussion?
Dungy ABSOLUTELY should be in the mix. He has COACHED his team back into contention. I like Smith and Sporano ... but those teams were made by their GM's not their coaches (though the coaches have done a fine job as has Harbaugh and even Zorn) but Dungy had to coach his team out of a big hole.
The injuries they have had and the position they were in just a few weeks ago ... to win over the Pats and then at Pittsburgh the next week is VERY impressive. Dungy should definitely be in the mix.

I agree.
Dungy should be in the mix.
The problem is they are expected to do well whereas the Falcons and Miami rose from no where to be playoff contenders with rookie coaches and very young players.
It will be interesting.

Between Sporano and Smith, it's really a toss up. Do you remember the Dolphins last year? They were one of the worst teams I have seen.

Re: NFL Coach of the Year
I say Smith from Atlanta.
Everyone was saying it was going to take Atlanta years to rebuild, and it only took one offseason. Hands down this guy.Trying to bring rationale to an irrational site
