    The NFC North FA Thread

A little update for people who haven't been following this thing closely.

    Vikings

    - Interested in RFA Marlin Jackson. Didn't get tendered, so they could sign him, even with the final 8 rule prohibiting them from signing an UFA.
    - Lost Chester Taylor to FA. He later signed with the Bears.
    - Due to Taylor signing somewhere else, the Vikings can now sign one UFA.

    Lions

    - Traded a 5th and a 6th to the Browns for Corey Williams.
    - Signed Kyle Vanden Bosch. Vanden Bosch played for Schwartz in Tennessee.
    - Signed Nate Burleson to a 5 year deal.
    - Let starting CB Philip Buchanon go.
    - Released Grady Jackson. Started 13 games in 2009.

    Bears

    - Signed Julius Peppers.
    - Signed Brandon Manumaleuna.
    - Signed Chester Taylor.
    - Expected to trade Greg Olsen, who "doesn't fit Martz's offensive scheme".

    Packers

    - Re-signed FA Clifton. Got heavy interest from Redskins.
    - Lost Aaron Kampman to FA. The Eagles, Seahawks and Buccaneers appear to be the 3 teams battling it out for Aaron.

    Pretty solid roundup there.

Just so all the sky is falling folks out there know ... there is a reason that the Packers have been fairly quiet and the Vikings have been fairly quiet. THESE TWO TEAMS ARE ALREADY GOOD.

Obviously the Lions have made improvements (though KVB was proven to be a little bit of a fraud the last year and a half) and the Bears made improvments. But remember, the Bears biggest need most certainly was not RB, it is STILL OL, WR, DBs and LBs. They have a ways to go.

The bears.. wow. people actually think they made a huge improvement? For one they dont have many draft picks and now they spending money on old (not washed up) players. Obviously they are building for the future and they are not ready to win right now. I dont think they are going in the right direction. just IMO

    Not worried about the Bears.

I am sorry to see Chester go to them just because I wanted him back here

Last year it was the Bears were the favorites because they signed Cutler! That worked out well.

They don't ahve a first or second round pick so FA is all they got.
What we've got here is failure to communicate.

    Re:The NFC North FA Thread

I'm not so sure that either team looks at thier moves as "Long Term" solutions, but rather as some sort of "Stop Gap" "Short Term" solution to improving thier teams......

    Bores:

    a. CT fix in exactly to the way thier new O-coord attacks defenses and will be a pain in our asses everytime a WR comes across the middle and clears out our LB'rs.

    b. Peppers. I took a stance on here a couple of years ago, when we were shopping for a RDE and said he was washed up. Guess what, the Panthers shifted him to RDE and he had a nice little resurgance. No doubt he will provide that same kindof spark to that Defense especially after they lost Adams last year.

Add to that mix the off chance that Tommie Harris and Urpacker play up to thier past potential and that defense might just give us fits, even if they don't add any other pieces.

    c. Manumaleuna. To most, this signing probably is a MEH kindof thing for them. For me, this is a huge piece of what Martz will try to do, especially when you look at the mess that OL is in.

Not the offensive weapon over the middle that most Bores fans will be looking for, but who cares. Martz doesn't stretch the field with a TE. He likes to run players across the middle at different depths via crossing routes with a RB coming in underneath once the middle is cleared.

As I said in another post, I wouldn't be a bit suprised to see the Bores try to deal Olsen so that they could land a better WR that fits the scheme.

    Lions

Nate. I always kindof thought that Nate was a bit overated. But in this case, I think he is a quality pickup. Gives them another option opposite of CJ as well as some ST's return options.

Corey Williams. Never did see why they tried to plug that cat into a 3-4 defense. He is better suited in a 4-3. Put him along side KVB and you have a pretty decent looking DL.

Kyle Vanden Bosch. Remember when the Vikes started brining cats like this in as stop gap measures when the team was being rebuilt? Probably past his prime, but like Molder said, he played with Schwartz in Tennessee and knows the scheme.

Together with Williams and KVB, Suh sure would give our OL fits for a couple of years.

In short, although some short term solutions in most cases, the Bores and Lions did get better. Now thier FO Pukes need to take it to the next step and continue the process by adding a few young cats via the draft (when they have picks) so that they fixt the team for the long run.

I wanted to just update it. There's no edit button, so I'll just redo the list. The Lions keep on making moves.

The Vikings also lost Artis Hicks yesterday to Washington, allowing them to sign a 2nd free agent.

You're right. Can't believe I forgot to update that. Again, no edit button, so you'll just have to imagine that one in there. Lol.

Haha it's no problem. I don't expect a 2nd move from the Vikings anytime in the near future anyway

Didn't you hear, theres a edit button for use right after you post.

JK my friend. I am sure that the edit function will be the first thing that Vesty has the developers address so that cats can update threads like this.

Anyway, Thanks for posting the updates. How you feeling about the loss of Kampman?
