NFL Referees are the best in all of sports, IMHO. Watching 22 tremendously fast and athletic men push and shove and fight during and being able to control it is rather difficult. Plus they have to be fit enough to run up and down the field - no Bruce Froemming fatties here like in baseball.

So, to counter you, I do not think they "suck".

Thanks to Josdin for the awesome sig!

After watching some of the world cup, I wondered what would happen if NFL called penalties like they did in soccer. They blow the play dead (when appropriate), run up to the player in question, get in their face, and hold up the yellow flag.

How many refs do you think would still be able to walk by week 16?

Not many, soccer players don't weigh 300+.

Do the new uniforms come with a complimentary set of eyeglasses?

Zeus, I want some of what you have been smoking. I agree that they have one of the toughest professional sports to officiate, but the quality of officiating leaves quite a bit to be desired. The biggest reason: part time officials. If the NFL would take a clue from other pro sports, they would pay their refs enough to make it a full time gig, with year round training.

When are you going to realize that picking out the 20 bad throws this year and ignoring the 300 good ones does not make your point?

I'm surprised that hasn't happened yet. Looks like a job for the new commish.
