Some of those runs against the Broncos were downright sweet. Let's not forget that the last time we saw Tarvaris he was leading us back from the jaws of defeat against Denver with some amazing reads and scrambles.

The whole mobility thing I will agree is overrated but the idea of being able to scramble out of a tough situation is invaluable for a young quarterback. The problem is many of them resort to using it far too much and never learn how to be true pocket passers. I think Childress has really instilled the idea of pass first in Tarvaris' mind, but hell, as long as the ability is there he might as well use it when he can.
Excellent post my friend especially your last point.

I really think that is one of the reasons we saw some hesitation out of him in certain circumstances last year.
He was trying to decide if he should run/pass/throw it away.

Always a bad thing when a player thinks to much.
My guess is we won't see so much indecision in him this year. ;D
Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v343/josdin00/Vikings/Marrdro_sig.jpg

exactly..thats what made daunte so successful early on..when he wasnt fumbling the ball off his own knee, some of the biggest plays he made came off of him scrambling out of the pocket and finding somebody open on a broken play
People who see life as anything more than pure entertainment are missing the point.

it's also what got daunte on the IR for a dinged up shoulder, a blown out knee etc and what got TJ on the IF with a concussion, a dinged up knee etc.

While it is entertaining to see them run, they do the team very little good when it leads to an injury that puts them on the bench.

there is a different between mobility and being a moblie quarterback. being able to escape the sack and step up in the pocket is mobility. mobile qb means vick

I was just about to say mobile qb is good, running qb is bad.
I want my qb to be mobile, so he can get outside the pocket for rollouts and bootlegs and such, but I do not want him running down the field.
I also want him to be able to move in the pocket as necessary, and continue to make his reads.
To me that is a mobile QB.

I think mobility is misunderstood by most fans, not overrated.

REAL QB mobility is the small steps inside the pocket that a QB takes plus the ability to roll out of the pocket either on a designed play or if the pocket collapses.

TJ, by the way, is a very mobile QB, but I don't link him in as a cheap version of Mike Vick as some do even though he has made some decent runs.
Exactly. "Overrated" is a bad term to use. SP states himself how important mobility is & it's the small steps inside the pocket that a QB takes that is necessary, then turns around & says it's overrated. He even cites great QB's that possess it.

Mobility is a key ingredient of a great QB.

What would Manning & Brady be without it?

    Overrated? HAH!
