    MMQB - Peter King - 8/20/07

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writers/peter_king/08/19/mmqb/index.html

The first two pages are King on Arthur Blank - interesting read.

But I'm posting the link for this quote (which every freaking player in the NFL should have embroidered in his locker):

    Quote of the Week II
"At the end of the day, you know what? I could have a desk job. I'm lucky -- we're all lucky -- to be playing a game for a living.'

-- Atlanta quarterback Joey Harrington, on Friday night, when I reminded him how rough a time he's had in his first five NFL seasons.
    Amen.

    =Z=

Thanks to Josdin for the awesome sig!

Blank deserves what he's getting...he might spend a ton of his money on players like Vick, but he's too much of a tightwad with Home Depot to hire enough people to staff his stores properly!
    FUCK BLANK!!!

Aggravating/Enjoyable Travel Note of the Week

Men's room, Buffalo airport, Saturday morning:

Loud guy: "Hey, what do you think of the Stillers this year?'

Me (knowing Loud Guy meant the "Steelers' in his South Side-ish accent): "Pretty good. I like [Coach Mike] Tomlin. I think he'll do a good job.'

Loud Guy: "How 'bout Big Ben? He gonna come back and be good?'

Me: "I think so. Got a lot to prove, but he's got too good an arm and too good a head to play as inconsistently as he did last year.'

By now, we're at the sink, and he's not letting me go. A few people are looking on.

    Loud Guy: "You like Hines?'

Me: "Love him. How can you like football and not like Hines Ward?'

Loud Guy: "Can we do it again? Win it all?'

Me: "Well, you might be a year away. You got a shot, but that's a tough conference this year, about as tough as I've seen in a while.

Loud Guy: "They're no year away. This is their year. I don't know why you guys in the media don't like the Stillers.'
    LOL!
    Stiller Fans!
Nobody wants to hear King's opinion unless it is also their own opinion.

    As far as Blank goes,
I don't feel sorry for him one bit.
These headlines the last few days have been "Poor Blank."
He got himself in the place he is sitting.
Have the former secret service agent tail Vick for a while.
    It is business.

I DID comment...you said that the first two pages were on Blank...so I read them.
And Peter commented in his article (that you referenced) that he felt sorry for Blank.

MY comment was in response to that comment...I DON'T feel sorry for him...and I told you all why.

I would think that most of them know they are lucky, but you can't change the spots on a leopard.
    The issue seems to be
the power that the $$ employs in the individual.
They think that they are invincible and can do anything they want.
It is like a power high that clouds the judgment.
When that happens, then you see guys getting themselves in trouble.
When these guys get in trouble, we tend to think they don't appreciate their job/career.

Joey, hasn't been anointed a great player, he has just been given opps to succeed and has been trying his best to do so.
We give Joey a lot of crap, but he is a classy guy who has held his head high even through those days in Det.

No doubt, some of the headcases need that tatooed backward on their forehead.
