    MMQB - great stat

Here's a great stat from MMQB this week:

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writers/peter_king/09/23/mmqb.week3/1.html

    Stat of the Week II
Postscript to the HBO Inside the NFL screed the other day about the meaninglessness of the quarterback rating stat:

Johnny Unitas' career quarterback rating: 78.2.

Jeff Blake's career quarterback rating: 78.0.

    Re: MMQB - great stat

    I disagree though.

I think the game has changed SO much between now and then that quarterback rating is a much more important stat now. It measures efficiency, yards, touchdowns and takes into account interceptions, so from a statistical standpoint I think it's great.

Now of course certain guys (i.e. Vince Young) are going to do a lot without having good numbers, but if you look at the best quarterbacks in the NFL (Palmer, Manning, Brady, etc.) they consistently have good ratings.

So I would disagree that the stat is meaningless.

    Palmer doesn't win.
Manning didn't win until last year.
The point is that a gaudy QB rating or a lousy QB rating isn't necessarily a hallmark of a QB who does the most important thing a team needs - lead it to wins.
