Minnesota Vikings vs San Francisco 49ers 2010 NFL Preseason Predictions & Picks
Minnesota Vikings vs San Francisco 49ers 2010 NFL Preseason Predictions & NFL Preseason Picks - The San Francisco 49ers will be looking for redemption against the Minnesota Vikings Sunday after their heartbreaking loss in Minnesota in week three of last season. With time running down, Brett Favre (you may have heard of him) heaved up a desperation bomb to the back of the endzone, that was hauled in expertly by Greg Lewis with two-seconds left.
Recent reports from teammates and insiders indicate that Brett Favre has indeed decided to return for his second season with Minnesota, a development long overdue but an encouraging one for Vikings fans.
At forty years old, Favre just completed one of the best seasons of his record breaking, Hall of Fame career, throwing for 33 touchdowns and just 7 interceptions. While it is unclear as of yet whether he will suit up for the upcoming NFL Preseason Predictions game against San Francisco, his imminent return spells trouble for the rest of the NFC, as the Vikings look primed for another deep postseason run.
If Favre does not play in this NFL Preseason Predictions game, or if he does what has long become cliche and change his mind on the season altogether, then the quarterback duties fall to Tarvaris Jackson, a prospect fans in Minnesota dread more than the cold. On his career, Jackson has completed less than sixty percent of his passes, and has acted mostly as the connection between snapping the football and handing it to Adrian Peterson. Bottom line: Brett Favre makes the Vikings relevant.
In San Francisco, fans are ready for former first pick Alex Smith to finally develop into the franchise quarterback they were promised. After five years and five different offensive coordinators, two major injuries, a head coaching change, and a severe lack of weapons to throw to on the outside, Smith has been given a myriad of excuses for his poor play. This year he has run out of potential excuses. If he struggles again this year, look for the 49ers to finally cut ties with him and move on.
Behind Smith is another disappointing former first overall pick in David Carr. In his first NFL preseason Picks outing Carr impressed, throwing for 98 yards and a touchdown on nine of eleven passing. Smith, meanwhile, struggled to three of nine and an interception. While there is no chance of a quarterback controversy to start this season, Smith will have to start producing soon if he wants to remain the long term starter in San Fran.
The edge at quarterback in this NFL preseason Picks game all depends on whether the immortal Brett Favre takes the field. If he does not, then the 49ers appear to have the edge, though the difference between Tarvaris Jackson and Alex Smith is slight. Ultimately, whichever quarterback corps can step up and help their superior running games will win this game. Look for that group to be wearing the red and gold.None
