Mike Tice new Bears offensive coordinator
I hope he does well here.
Bears promote Mike Tice to offensive coordinator - Chicago Sun-Times
He was very impressive in his job interview yesterday and shares the same vision I have for our offense, Smith said. We want to be a strong running team with a big-play pass attack. Mike will call plays for us and continue to have an active role with our offensive line. Why must you defend everything this FO does....to the point of making your self look like a yes man.

Unfortunately for us I think he's going to be an improvement over Martz for the Bears, and if Lovie ends up on the hotseat Tice might be in a good spot to move up again.

Well the knock here was that he went to HC too soon with no OC experience at all. This time round he's building up to it slower so he'll be better. I always liked Tice and thought he was thrown in too quickly, course he wasn't going to turn down the chance of the HC job but it was too soon for him. Plus he was working under McCombs cheapskate regime so he was onto a slippery slope from the beginning.
Time spent annoying a Packer fan is never time wasted...

Tice was screwed in MN mainly because he came to a team with old and over-priced players so all the veterans were cut loose and he was left to rebuild. I like Tice and know he'll be a good OL coach. I think he's a bit conservative but he could still be a good HC given a chance.

From what I understand from listening to Chicago sports talk radio, Tice has the title of offensive coordinator (and will call plays on game day), but will really just be in charge of the running game. They are looking to hire a QB coach / passing game coordinator to handle the rest of the offense. They are also looking to hire a new OL coach, but Tice will still have major input on the OL.

Interesting approach. I can see why they would want to give Tice help on the passing side of things, but will he really be equipped to call the plays if he isn't designing the passing schemes. run, run, 3rd and long, okay what have you got for me Billy, I need 8.
Seems a bit convoluted to me.

I seem to recall the Redskins doing something like this half way through the season with Jim Zorn and adding Sherm Lewis into the mix to help with the QB and passing game. After the season was over I heard an interview with Chris Cooley discussing this system and from what I recall he was saying that practices and meeting didn't flow well and at crunch time during a game getting calls down from Lewis in the booth, then Zorn from the sideline was even worse.....then Zorn was later removed from calling all together....then fired when the season was done
