The San Diego Union-Tribune reports San Diego Chargers LB Shawne Merriman is training hard to prepare for training camp and the regular season. He is boxing not to fight, but to become a better football player. "I can guarantee you 110 percent nobody in the league is doing this kind of workout," Merriman said. "It gets tough. You think you don't have it in you; you have to find a way to finish it." He has added 10 pounds of muscle and lost more body fat. "I'm faster than I've ever been because I've cut so much body fat. I feel so much better. It's scary. I don't think I played that well (last season) compared to what I can do. I'm going to be a lot better this year. It's not even going to be close."

wow, scary to think that he feels he didn't play well last year.

A rookie that has 10 sacks and he did not play well? He only started 10 games.

Sounds like he's going to be an animal.

The guy is a beast. I was hoping we'd draft him last year. I figured it was a lock too, with Tice being a big Maryland guy.

He is slightly overated if you ask me. All he does is rush the passer. I mean, Lance Johnstone had four 10+ sack seasons, and he was never that great. When I see him become a more complete linebacker than I will talk about how good he is. When this guy can cover like Donnie Edwards or cover the field like, say, Jonathan Vilma or Ray Lewis come and talk to me... because he'll never be able to.

He trains at the gym I go to (The Boxing Club) here in SD. The guy is a monster. If any of you guys are mixed martial arts fans --- Dean Lister trains at the same gym.

If you caught the UFC last weekend (Hughes vs Gracie) the fight right before the main event featured Dean Lister choking out a striker from Italy.
