I gotta agree with PT on this one.

I had a discussion with some Southern gentlemen this very weekend on this very same subject regarding the race of our QB and thiers (Skins).

Obviously it is still an issue in America.
Very sad my friends, very sad indeed.

Are you sure the Packers are Americans? They aren't even usually classified on this site as not even 100% human. Or is that just that just in reference to their mating habits?

Seriously, this is a tough subject, but the standard for McNabb probably is higher than most QBs, but I think if you ask Grossman or Eli Manning about being held to high standard they might tell you same thing. Might have to do with expectations. Doesn't mean some of what he is referring to doesn't happen with fans and maybe some writers, but that kind of arguement usually cuts both ways and leaves everyone bleeding.

Re: McNabb tells HBO that race is an issue at QB position

It'd be interesting to break down all of the QB's and how the media perceives them.. is it race, is it ability, is it winning/losing, is it attitude?
There is so much to tease out there.

I mean, somebody just pointed out Eli and Rex... how about poor Joey punching bag Harrington?
    David Carr?

I mean, McNabb is taking a licking from the press now, as is T-Jack... who else is struggling these days?
I mean, as a QB, it seems you're gonna get blasted regardless, particularly on the east coast where everybody is blasted (See coaches, etc.)

I'm not stating it is/isn't any of the above, just curious as to what people think...

    Trust me, I'm a doctor.

Well I wish I could see this far down the road eventually the human race is gonna all end up one shade all a moldy off-beat gray, then we can all hate on each other for being grey.
but yeah until that time we are gonna have to just suck it up and say race is yet a problem in this country and try and be tolerant of diffrences in people, and let the racist groups just fall of the earth.

Donovan McNabb says African-American quarterbacks are perceived differently than white quarterbacks in a wide-ranging interview that will air tonight on HBO's "Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel.".....
Brian Leonard must feel the same way about his prospects at the tailback position for the Rams.

Obviously race is and unfortunatly will be an issue for a long time. It is sad that people still are racist and they do not even know it. I think race plays an important part in how someone is preceived. I am with him that he has it harder than white QBs. On the other hand if Joey Harrington was black would his parents have been treated the same way? Would they have threaten him and his family? Something to think about.

    Agreed.

I think most people would be pretty naive to think otherwise.

I agree with these two posts.

I think that even comments about DC on this board were at times influenced by his race.
You can see it in some post.
I think that most post that were critical of him were based on football.

As far as McNabb, I think that he wore out his welcome in Philly.
I think with all those NCF championship games and no SuperBowl Title, the fans can't be happy.
They seem like they are about where we were after 2000.
We were facing a mediocre team coming off some successful years.
    We needed a change.
Back to McNabb, if he would have won that SB title, then he would be an idol but now he is a ?loser? to the fans because of the losses.
"Oh he can't win the big game,"
I think we heard that about DC.

BTW, I heard it on NFLN or ESPN, the speculation that McNabb doesn't want to be in Philly next year.....
I am not even going to suggest it, Cajun might have a coronary.
    LOL!
