I'm torn on this... because, while I do agree with you, Ryan is the one on the field performing and actually making split-second decisions... and doing it well. Both are having great seasons with a team people thought may go winless this year.

Coach of the Year: Mike Smith

Rookie of the Year: Matt Ryan

Smith has had a good year, but I don't think I'd give him Coach of the Year.
In contention, but I think you have to end up in the playoffs.

Also, for rookie QBs: Otto Graham.

    -54.6% comp., 1834 yards, 17 TDs, 5 INTs, 10.5 Y/A, and 112.1 QB rating
-the Browns went 13-2 and won the AAFC championship
When the age of the Vikings came to a close, they must have sensed it. Probably, they gathered together one evening, slapped each other on the back and said, "Hey, good job." - Jack Handey [Deep Thoughts]

I totally agree with you CMac.
    Mike Smith for sure.
Took a team that wasn't supposed to go anywhere and now he is in position to make the playoffs.

Ryan should be a contender but I am not sure he is clear cut.
There are rookies like Matt Forte, Johnathan Stewart that are in the running as well.
Joe Flacco has done well but I don't think he should win ROY.

Tony Sparano deserves a honerable mention in this discussion as well.

comeon now, you can't compare the qb's of today to the qb's of yesterday like Dan Marino and especially Fran Tarkenton.

There are rules in place now, promoting the passing game.
It is easier than ever to complete passes today.
In the 60's and 70's the object of the game was to run, and throw bombs.
If someone had over 55% completion pct, they were considered a great player.
There was none of this west coast offense bulshit.. it was run and gun.
You could also say the game is much faster today, the athletes on defense are better and the passing games (ie West Coast offense as an example) are much more difficult to learn and master, ESPECIALLY for a rookie.

I m like a Ja Rule poster, cause I'm off the wall.

The young cat up in Balt has done a nice job up there as well.

Lots of good candidates that will get overlooked for some yutz who doesn't deserve it.

Re: Matt Ryan, The Best Rookie QB Ever?

Greg Cook with the Cincinnati Bengals had a great rookie season, but because of a hit that injured his shoulder he only threw one more pass after his rookie season.

Ben Roethlisberger had a great rookie season, but his team was Superbowl ready when he stepped in. The Falcons have a good team, but I doubt they are a Superbowl ready team.

    [glow=orange,2,300]Greg Cook[/glow]

    Games played: 11

    Completions: 106 of 197: 54%

Yards: 1,854 with an average of 9.4 yards.

    Touchdowns/Interceptions: 15TD, 11INT
