Re: Matt Ryan, The Best Rookie QB Ever?

The real question is can he do it again next year. Only time will tell.
    We're bringing purple back.

comeon now, you can't compare the qb's of today to the qb's of yesterday like Dan Marino and especially Fran Tarkenton.
There are rules in place now, promoting the passing game.
It is easier than ever to complete passes today.
In the 60's and 70's the object of the game was to run, and throw bombs.
If someone had over 55% completion pct, they were considered a great player.
There was none of this west coast offense bulshit.. it was run and gun.

He has been impressive, however, I give alot of credit to:

    a.
    His running back(s).
    b.
    His WR's.
Have you seen the separation that crew get?
Damn near any QB could throw to them.
    c.
    His OL.
Seems to have a nice pocket on most of his throws.
Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v343/josdin00/Vikings/Marrdro_sig.jpg

    Yet we cant

Ben Rothlesburger went 15-1 his rookie year....

    Touchdowns/Interceptions: 17TD, 11INT

Take note that Matt Ryan isn't finished with the season yet... The only real thing Ben has over Matt is the Average yards and completions.
And the most important stat of all (which you failed to mention)... Wins.

This falcons team is good, they just played like pooh in the wake of losing their quarterback last year, and were plagued with injuries. Not to mention Michael Turner was a stud back just waiting to get a chance to shine. Turner is the reason that offense is moving, Ryan is just benefiting from it. Kid's good, but he's not Marino or Big Ben
Um... Rothlesburger didn't win the Super Bowl his rookie season guys.

Re: Matt Ryan, The Best Rookie QB Ever?

Ryan hasn't had the best rookie season for a QB, but you picked the right people to compare him to because he is right up there.

I'd personally pick Roethlisberger, who put up gaudy numbers (game manager? yeah, right.) while going 13-0 in the regular season.

Both Big Ben and Marino lost home playoff games though.
I don't remember if Marino played well in the loss, but Roethlisberger was terrible against both the Jets and then New England in the playoffs.
That's an area where Ryan could still pick up some ground on these guys if he's able to get the Falcons in and make some noise.

Nothing wrong with being in a reasonable debate with Marino and Roethlisberger though.
Miami and St. Louis will probably regret passing on him for a long time.
When the age of the Vikings came to a close, they must have sensed it. Probably, they gathered together one evening, slapped each other on the back and said, "Hey, good job." - Jack Handey [Deep Thoughts]

Ben did not win the superbowl his rookie season.
They lost that year in the playoffs.

    Edit:
I guess we already mentioned this.

I'm more impressed with the rookie coach, Mike Smith than the QB.
