Manning, MVP a record fourth time (09)

Manning named MVP a record fourth time

    Associated Press

NEW YORK -- Maybe the award should be renamed Most Valuable Peyton.

Peyton Manning became the first player to win The Associated Press NFL Most Valuable Player honor four times. The Indianapolis Colts' sensational quarterback romped to the award Saturday in balloting by 50 sports writers and broadcasters who cover the league.

He received 39 1/2 votes to 7 1/2 for Drew Brees of New Orleans. Only four players -- all quarterbacks -- earned votes. The other two were Philip Rivers of San Diego (2) and Brett Favre of Minnesota (1).

Manning also won in 2003, 2004 and 2008, breaking a tie with Favre at three MVPs

    Manning?

    My order would have been
    1) C. Johnson
    2) Favre
    3) Manning
    4) Brees
    5) P. Rivers

Trying to be unbiased towards BF.

    1 or 2)Brees/Johnson
    3 or 4)Manning/Favre
    5)Rivers

Johnson was the one guy at a position that really stood out. But, we have a tendency to want to give it to a QB. No votes for Johnson, that is a shame.

I can't give it to Johnson, as I don't think he's even the MVP for his team, that goes to Vince Young.

    For MVP, I'd go
    Rivers
    Favre
    Brees
    Manning

But, of course Mannings the little media darling so he gets all the love.

Take CJ out and see how VY does!

CJ was the most dynamic player in the NFL this season. He doesn't get consideration without making it to the playoffs. If he would have made it, he would have got some votes.

CJ was the MVP of his team BTW. He played all season at a consistent level. VY was a variable, not a constant!

Titans were 0-6 without Vince Young, they were 8-2 with Vince young, only 2 losses coming against the Colts and Chargers, who are some decent teams to lose to.

Chris Johnson played all 16 of those games. I'm sure, if CJ only churns out 1500 yards instead of 2000, they still win most or all of those games. If VY doesn't come off the bench do they?

IMO, MVP is different from player of the year.

I think CJ should get offensive player of the year, no doubt about it. I don't think he should be in consideration for MVP, as he wasn't.

Favre wins this if he completes the comeback vs. the Bears.

    Re:Manning, MVP a record fourth time (09)

Sure, Peyton sucks...if the Colts wanted to give him to us, we wouldn't even want him. Yeah, right...one of my top-5 QB's of all time. MVP this year? I would have voted for Rivers or Favre, as that guy without which his team would not be where it is...but I can't argue with Manning winning it. How can anyone say he doesn't deserve it?
