Looks like Jose Cortez won't be available to us this year...

Kicker Jose Cortez signed with the Cowboys.

Cortez, who has kicked for four other NFL teams, was signed after working out for the Cowboys on Saturday. Wade Richie also worked out but wasn't signed.

The Cowboys waived injured kicker Brett Visintainer, who coach Bill Parcells said had a back injury. Also on the roster is Billy Cundiff, the team's kicker the past three seasons.

Cortez spent the past two seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, appearing in 10 games and only handling kickoffs. He hasn't attempted a field goal since 2002 with Washington, when he made 23 of 32 that season. He also has kicked for the New York Giants (1999) and San Francisco (2001).

Yeah, just saw this at KFFL. I think our kicking game will improve this season with either Elling or Edinger, and of course I will back whoever wins the job, but I did like the way Cortez performed last year on kickoffs. Too bad his leg isn't a bit more accurate.

i bet jackyl is happy about this. isn't cortez one of his favorte players? if it is ill try to take a pic at the training camp and send it to you jackyl ok.

Yea, I hope either Elling or Edinger can step foward and make the coach choose them. I really don't trust Elling at all, hopefully Edinger has the magic boot.
