    Lions to trade #1 pick?

Report: Lions Attempting To Trade No. 1 Pick
Posted by Aaron Wilson on April 5, 2009, 11:28 a.m. EDT

    http://www.profootballtalk.com/2009/04/05/report-lions-attempting-to-trade-no-1-pick/

The Detroit Lions have initiated trade scenarios with other NFL teams about trading the top overall selection they currently own, according to Mike Reiss of the Boston Globe.

However, there hasn’t been anyone inclined toward trading up at this point because of the high expense of signing a player at that slot.

Citing NFL scouts and personnel executives as sources, Reiss
notes that at least one scouting director doesn’t think that Baylor offensive tackle Jason Smith is top-of-the-draft material, or even a “top-10 talent.”

I can't see this happening, add the fact that its huge cost, and there's no real good #1 overall players, this is a bad year to have #1 overall pick.

    Fat chance I say.
Too many picks and too many $$$$$

A team would have to be pretty desperate for QB I guess, and I don't see anybody that desperate, nor am I fully sold on any of this year's QBs.

People keep saying DEN should trade their two firsts away for one of the QBs, but I think those folks aren't thinking very clearly, nor looking at the big picture.
NOT EVERY TEAM NEEDS A FRANCHISE QB!!
In fact I'm betting that Josh is looking to run the ball and play defense, so I think he drafts a later round project, but goes defense with at least the first 2 picks.
Hell, he may even draft another RB before another QB.
Orton is a decent game manager and Simms has flashed potential, he may even stick with what he's got and pick up a third, leftover guy way laters.
Got to consider the fact that Cassell was undrafted and Brady was a 6th round pick.
Control the line, control the time, and give your D a chance to shine!!

Every year there is rumors of the 1st being delt.

The team that has it has to let everyone know that they'll listen to offers, but the steep price does that it rarely gets done

Thanks to PPE for the sig.

There is always rumors of the first pick being traded, but it never happens. I would probably be shocked if they found a way to pull it off

The lions would have to pay someone to take it, what team wants to guarantee a rookie $30 Million?

One a team who are desparate enough to get Matt Stafford and it seems no one is.. the pick will stay where it is..

Clear indicator that they need to do something about the cost vs risk involved for at least the top 5 picks.

Think about it, the top teams are there cause they suck.
Locking up that much money on a kid who might not play out is a death nell.
Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v343/josdin00/Vikings/Marrdro_sig.jpg
