Re: Lions release return specialist Eddie Drummond

I said it in another thread and will say it again, this is not devin hester we're talking about, and I believe signing him would leave Nance off the roster, and that man deserves a chance to make plays... drummond is nothing in the passing game, but would be great for curing the blues of years of lackluster special teams returns... sans K-Rob

    RB...Fason

WR.....Pick your lower half of the poison there.

I left Moore off the list, because he does have some value to us as player and as trait bait.
    Sorry Moore fans....just my opinion
Yeah...but do we sacrifice young talent for short term gratification?

Re: Lions release return specialist Eddie Drummond

ND pointed out the crappy kicking that causes the disparity between our returning special teams to opponents.
I didn't see the Rams game but Nugent is one hell of a kicker for the Jets.

I thought Allison looked like a capable future returnman at the Meadowlands.
I don't think a return specialist would entirely solve the problem.
The most alarming problem looked to be the blocking from the front line and the wedge.
On the only kick Allison received out of the end zone he was smothered soon after. On top of that MeMo has been consistently been an above average punt returner previous years.

I don't think Fergi is gonna be the answer on returns in anyway.
I am not even sure where that idea is coming from.

Chilly has stated he is looking for options to better the special teams.
I come from the camp that would prefer to see young guys with potential held on to if possible, but I think this is gonna be a competitive team this year so if Chili deems that this guy could be an immediate asset then I am all for it.

I'm not going to list the entire roster here, but I think you would cut an extra receiver.
I don't think Drummond is a great WR, but he's played that position and could provide some depth.
So just going off the KFAN predicted roster (http://www2.kfan.com/content/vikings...4-9ccafb677a54), I think Nance might be the odd-man out if this happened.
When you get down to your 6th receiver, you're really looking for help on special teams and a little depth to pull you through if you get a rash of injuries.
I think Drummond could provide that, based on past stats, speculation, and a gut feeling.

I understand this guy isn't Devin Hester, but I think that if you can improve yourself at the return position it's worth sacrificing a number six receiver.

I agree with what NDVikingFan66 and Billy Boy posted on the bad kicking game, but our return game has still been poor.
Billy Boy is right that one guy isn't going to solve that, but I guess I'm just frustrated.
Mostly, I just want to go a year without seeing the ball hit the ground on special teams.
When the age of the Vikings came to a close, they must have sensed it. Probably, they gathered together one evening, slapped each other on the back and said, "Hey, good job." - Jack Handey [Deep Thoughts]

Short term gratification or an opportunity to help our young offense out with a shorter field.
Give them decent field position, let them gain some confidence, move the chains a bit, and win the battle of field position.
