ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) The Detroit Lions released former Pro Bowl return specialist Eddie Drummond on Thursday.....
I can't believe I'm saying this first, but would he be a viable option for the Vikings who are still looking for a return man or did his eye injury put an end to his career?
Does he still got game?
2006:
• Finished the season ranked seventh in the NFL (fourth in the NFC) in kickoff return yardage with 1,349 yards, which was also a new career-high.
• Returned five kickoffs for 117 yards (23.4 avg) with a long of 44 yards, and also returned four punts for 26 yards (6.5 avg) with a long of 13 yards against Green Bay (9/24).
• Recorded a season-high six kickoff returns for a single-game career-high 210 yards (35.0 avg) with a long of 65 yards at St. Louis (10/1). His 210 kickoff return yards are a single-game high in the NFL this season, and are the fifth highest single-game tally in club history.
• Had five kickoff returns for 102 yards (20.4 avg) with a long return of 24 yards along with two punt returns for 41 yards (20.5 avg) with a season-high 29-yard return at Minnesota (10/8). Also returned a kickoff 98-yard that was negated due to a penalty.
• Returned five kickoffs for 103 yards (20.6 avg) with a long return of 26 yards at the New York Jets (10/22), but was limited on punt returns and was replaced by WR Az-Zahir Hakim after suffering an eye injury.
• Recorded a season-best punt return of 30 yards vs. Atlanta (11/5).
• Tied a season-best six kickoff returns for 146 yards (24.3 avg) with a long return of 36 yards vs. San Francisco (11/12).
• Inactive vs. Miami (11/23) while still suffering from the effects of a concussion sustained against the 49ers.
• Returned four punts for 51 yards (12.8 avg), while also adding six kickoff returns for 136 yards (22.5 avg) vs. Minnesota (12/10).
• Inactive vs. Chicago (12/24) with a hip injury.
• Returned two punts for a season-best 72 yards (36.0 avg) with a season-long punt return of 40 yards and returned six kickoffs for 121 yards (20.2 avg) at Dallas (12/31).
• With his kickoff return performance against the Cowboys, Drummond (5,026) became only the second player in team history to register 5,000 kickoff return yards in their career. He ranks second to only Mel Gray (5,478) in Lions history.
• By reaching 5,000 kickoff return yards, Drummond also became only the 22nd player in NFL history to accomplish the feat. He currently ranks 22nd all-time on the NFL’s kickoff return list with 5,026 yards.
• Drummond’s (1,058) 72 punt return yards against the Cowboys also allowed him to become only the sixth player in Lions history to record 1,000 punt return yards in their career

him on the team at the expense of who though, thats the only thing, otherwise he is a great returner

if ferguson is here for returning then bring in drummond to replace him, or maybe that means no nance/mcmullen
Sounds like he is a great return option, and he knows the Lions offense.
Hmm....Ferguson from the Pack....Drummond from the Lions....we could have nice little inside track....lol

Didn't we have the ball bouncing on the ground during one return against the Jets?
Didn't we have people shuffling in and out of the return spot all of last year?
With our poor special teams, you need to consider someone that you know can at least catch and hold onto the ball.
I don't think the eye injury is a big deal, as he continued to play after that (10/22) and his stats were fine.
But I really don't know... I haven't been following Lions camp.
tb04512 mentioned Ferguson as the return man, but he really doesn't have nearly as much experience as Drummond.
Ferguson has returned 41 kicks and 0 punts over his career, which is basically just spot duty.
In contrast, Drummond returned 62 kicks and 28 punts last year alone.
I hope the Vikes take a look at the guy, and I'd be happy if they signed him to a cheap one-year deal.
