Everyone....that is to say EVERYONE climbs out of the basement eventually (see Green Bay Packers). The thing I see with the Lions is that they have been quietly building a quality team over the past few years while everyone was focused elsewhere in the league. Last year I thought they looked on the verge of a breakout and my feeling was that they needed to be watched closely. I also think that they could do alot worse in their depth at QB. Most of last year was played with the backup under center.
They won their last four games last year and are looking good going into preseason this year. If the team gets on the same page at the same time..........
My feeling is that they are going to be serious contenders in our division, very soon, if not sooner.
You know that I hold you up there as one of the smartest football chicks in the world, however, I think your off the mark with the Lions by one year, possibly two.

Again, the only reason they weren't at the bottom last year was cause we had, well, you know who under center.

Mix in a few injury issues of our own and they clearly had the luck on us last year.

I think we fixed a couple of our depth issues and think Dnabb is a hell of alot better than old broke D!CK making us a heck of alot better than they are.

Nope, young lady, they will be in the bottom again, but just barely. The Bores will just barely beat them for third in the div.

I definitely get what you're saying, Freya. I also believe that the Lions are getting better and I admit that I respect their ability to win games much more this season than in a very long time.

I just thought that "dominating our division" was a little over the top... ALOT over the top quite frankly.

I'm starting to feel that we are playing in one of the toughest divisions. I don't believe the Bears will do so good this year, but the Packers have as good of a team as they had in the Super Bowl. If not better considering many guys that were injured are back and healthy. I hate to admit it, but they could be the ones who wins it in two straight years.

Thanks, Marrdro......but we will have to agree to disagree on some of these issues. I don't think that Favre was the main problem last year, I think it was our oline, which I still don't think has been adequately addressed (although getting rid of lard arse went a long way in the right direction). I simply won't hold Favre responsible for crappy play on the part of other individuals, capable of playing much, MUCH better.

I also disagree with you about McNabb.........while I am still adjusting to the idea of an ex-Eagle on our team (and I will) I am not excited (or confident) about his ability at this point.

To put it simply, I just don't think that we have that much of an edge over the Lions, if we have any at all. I also do not attribute it entirely to luck.

It sure makes for a good debate, though!

Personally, I don't think there is intelligent life on other planets. Why should other planets be any different from this one?

I don't know what it is. Suh is definitely a very likable and marketable guy in interviews and with charities and such.
But when I see him play (and this is back to Nebraska) there is definitely a dirty streak in him. I think it is part of what makes him great, but it also is clearly going to cost him some money, and at some point might cost him and his team some games.

The times i saw Fairley in college as well he looked and started to get a rep as a dirty player, cheap-shotting qb's etc... could be an interesting duo on that front

I think we see it a lot when a dominating player gets labled "dirty", simply for dominating.
If you don't want Suh pile driving your qb into the ground you simply have to block him.
I wouldn't want to be a QB facing him, that's for sure.

Its a discussion young lady, not a debate. Debates eventually get nasty. Discussions on the other hand, for the most part don't.

Agree, but if you really took a hard look at our OL line year and how it eventually graded out, I don't think they are/were as bad as you think.

Not a one man blame issue, but his limitation with respect to being able to move around mixed in with holding the ball way to long (remember how he graded out there) did make the OL look a bit worse than it really was.

I am sure you will agree with me on that little point of discussion.

I also disagree with you about McNabb.........while I am still adjusting to the idea of an ex-Eagle on our team (and I will) I am not excited (or confident) about his ability at this point.
If I am correct, we should see a passing game against the Seachickens that will make you smile a bit more.

Won't be reminiscent of the days of "3 Deep" but I think we will see the staff work the inside out (between the hashes) 20 yards and in with a few more 11 set shots deep to our outside guys.

Next week, after the Seachickens, we should see pretty much the entire package included in the week 3 preseason game plan even though it will remain a bit vanilla.

To put it simply, I just don't think that we have that much of an edge over the Lions, if we have any at all. I also do not attribute it entirely to luck.
I worry about one thing with respect to the Lions. That interior on the DL. Looking around the league, because their 3-4 defenses can't get to the QB from the edges, there are a couple of teams loading up on the "War Pigs" in an effort to get at QB's doing the 3 and 5 step drops as the Lions have done.

I think it would have been interesting to see how our OL stacked up against Houston a bit earlier than week 4 as a measure of what one of those teams will do to us.

    Exactly.

Kindof like the "We dont' like it when you run up the score". Who the heck cares, "stop us if you don't like it mentality" if you ask me.
