Lions to Fans: "Fuck 'em until next year"

    http://www.theoaklandpress.com/stories/051608/spo_20080516255.shtml

Does e-mail show how Lions really feel about their fans?

    By PAT CAPUTO
    Of The Oakland Press

When Kevin Furlong received an e-mail from an employee of the Detroit Lions ticket office, he did a double take.

"F--- 'em until next year," it said.

It was an inadvertent transmission, meant to be sent from one Lions employee, Matt Schul, to another, Lance Powser, about Furlong's ordeal with the Lions ticket office. Furlong felt compelled to cancel six season tickets worth more than $5,000 for the 2008 season. The Lions were trying to convince him to renew.

"It was extremely disappointing," Furlong said of his reaction to the e-mail.

Cast aside the graphic language and examine only the meaning, and I find these words to be telling. In my opinion, they sum up the organization's attitude in its totality.

The Lions take their support for granted.

It would be extremely frustrating to be a Lions fan.
As bad as Vikings fans have it sometimes with disappointments and such, it could always be worse.

The guy is a fair-weather fan... if the Lions do good this year, I guarantee the guy forks over the $5,000 again.

I have no problem with this... it was just an email error. He should step back and say, "Yeah, maybe they have a point. I'm just a shallow fan who roots for the Lions...
by the way... why the HELL do I have Lions season tickets? I'm a f*cking idiot... I need to start making better decisions and root for a team with promise. I'm moving to Minneapolis."
    Disclaimer: I'm an idiot.

    LMFAO!

    Whoops.

Just to show you the difference between organizations...

The Lions apparently don't give a fuck about their season ticket holders.

However, last month, I emailed the director of marketing for the Vikings regarding an issue I had with the draft party sales, and not only did I get several personal and professional emails back, but I also received followups to make sure that I, as a season ticket holder, was satisfied with the results.

I have also been in constant contact with Travis from the ticket office regarding group tickets for the home opener for my company.
Nothing but great service there too.

The Vikings have shown me that they value me (or at a minimum my money ) and that is something that I think is very important in a sports franchise.

    What issues did you have?

And since you couldn't get out of your driveway, how can you complain?

    The last part was funny.

But it doesn't sound like the guy was a fair weather fan to me.
They screwed up on his tickets two years in a row - and he was angry by it.
Considering the lack of fan base that the Lions have, I think they would work extra hard NOT to piss them off.

My issues with the sales were minor, and not something that I cared to address in this forum.
Basically, it was a professional concern from one marketing professional to another - and the concern turned out to be well founded once we looked into it.
Needless to say, it only affected a small percentage of the ticket holders, and most probably didn't notice anyway.

And I could get out of my driveway.
I just couldn't get down the street.
And this had nothign to do with that (I gladly ate the price of the tickets and hotel for the weekend - I was still on the high from getting Allen.

You were bitching about the TicketMaster tickets, I bet.
