Lions | Team to have demanding training camp under Marinelli
Mon, 24 Jul 2006 07:50:20 -0700
Mike O'Hara, of the Detroit News, reports the Detroit Lions will face one of the most brutal training camps in the NFL under head coach Rod Marinelli. While many teams ease their players into full speed, Marinelli intends to throw pads on his players from the beginning. "We'll start very fast in camp," Marinelli said. "I've explained to them in detail what we're going to be doing… It's going to be a very rigorous and challenging camp, so they've got to be prepared for that."

Well thats good for them. Maybe it will make them tougher.
But seriously I am beginning to think that the pros practices are easy. I mean I'm in highschool and we do two and three a days in full pads everyday until school starts. The pros do 2 a days but I have seen some of there practice schedules before and they are only padded up like once a day sometimes and the other practice is just like a walk through with shorts and a helmet on. Not hitting or anything. I don't know, now I'm just kind of rambling.

that definatly could have been phrased in a much more...... respectful way bloody...
but yeah, i can see why he'd want to have a hard training camp, so much untapped potential on that team, a lot of could-have-beens & what-if players

The players squealed on him during the off season team activities about having contact (which is not allowed) and how severe the drills were. The Lions lost one of their minicamps as punishment, so I can believe that he is going to make them pay for it but it could back fire and he could lose the team and their season could be over before it starts like the Les Steckel year. What we've got here is failure to communicate.

They are pros. They have played sports all their lives. Let them get out there and work their butts off. Thats what makes them tougher when the season kicks off. I say its a damn good idea.
