Leinart a no-show in Arizona
Quote:
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- Quarterback Matt Leinart missed the Arizona Cardinals' first day of workouts Monday as contract negotiations between the team and their first-round draft pick dragged on.
Leinart did not report to training camp with the rest of the team Sunday, and when players took the field Monday morning he still hadn't appeared. There were no indications from the club that it was close to signing Leinart, the 10th overall pick last spring.
"Whenever Matt gets here, we'll be happy," coach Dennis Green said after the workout. "We'll have open arms, and we'll try to get him caught up as quick as we can."
With Leinart absent, John Navarre took more snaps as the No. 2 quarterback during Monday morning's drills. Asked if he was afraid Leinart might fall behind if he missed more practices, Green replied, "Any time you're not practicing you fall behind, in my opinion."
Arizona appeared close to a deal with Leinart when his agent, Tom Condon, came to Phoenix Friday to meet with club officials. But Condon left the Valley after the sides did not meet Sunday.

Re: Leinart a no-show in Arizona
This isn't surprising. However, if Leinart gets in camp before the week is over, he'll take Warner's starting job by week 10.
You can quote me on that.
