LOS ANGELES - Quarterback Warren Moon was honored by the City Council for being elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Moon grew up in the Los Angeles area and played in a youth football league where one of his coaches was Councilman Bernard Parks. He thanked council members on Friday for the recognition.

"It's a very special day," said Moon, who will become the first black quarterback inducted to the Hall of Fame. "Los Angeles has always been special to me because it's my home, even though I haven't lived here for a long time. You guys have not forgotten me and I appreciate that."

Moon began his pro career in the Canadian Football League before signing with the NFL's Houston Oilers in 1984. He also played for the Minnesota Vikings, Seattle Seahawks and the Kansas City Chiefs. He amassed 49,325 yards over a 17-season NFL career.

Moon will be inducted Aug. 5 in Canton, Ohio, along with five other members of this year's Hall of Fame class - Troy Aikman, Harry Carson, John Madden, Reggie White and Rayfield Wright.

Well done Warren. A well-deserved accolade.

Still a wife beater, so he still has no respect from me. He was however a great football player.
