    O’Sullivan was widely expected to be the third-string quarterback behind both the winner and the loser of the battle between Smith and Shaun Hill. But the 49ers say that’s not the case; O’Sullivan has a real shot at beating both of them.

    OK, for the record, I did a search AND scanned the topics for "O'Sullivan".
    That thread is titled "Alex Smith says shoulder is OK - Feud with Nolan seems to be over" and the link goes to a different article.

    I don't recall cutting Shaun Hill. I believe he simply became a FA & we elected not to resign him.
