Josh Freeman doesn't appear to be in the Bucs future plans
According to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, the Bucs won’t be extending Freeman’s contract, which expires after the 2013 season. And as Stroud explains it, the decision not to sign Freeman to a new deal could be part of a plan by coach Greg Schiano, who inherited Freeman, to get his own quarterback.

I wouldn't mind seeing Freeman in Purple.

I think that if Freeman can be had on the cheap it would be wise to have him as a backup if only to avoid another Joe Webb debacle. Plus, then the Vikings will have a QB competition between Freeman and Ponder. Competition will force each of them to improve and that is nothing but good for this team.

Anyone watch what offense Freeman is good at running? Sure he has a cannon for an arm, but I'm not so sure our WR corps is ready to cut over to the vertical .....WAIT A MINUTE, WAIT A MINUTE, what WR corps.
I know, the one that Ponder doesn't have.
No way this staff pays two QB's starter money. No way. They will continue to develop Ponder and add weapons around him and come this time next year we will be talking about some other problem on the roster my friends. Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.

I'd take Freeman over nay of the other "available" veteran QBs like Smith and Sanchez. We'd still need at lest one speedy, sure-handed WR, but I could see this being good for us. And I agree that Freeman would have the inside track on winning the starting job. Ponder's rookie contract would not be much of an issue, IMO, and he could benefit from both the competition and, should he lose, the time on the bench.
The problem will be, I think, what Tampa would want for him. Do they plan to keep him and then sign and trade him after the season? He's only got the one year left, and I doubt they would just let him go without a solid replacement in hand. What would we have to give up to get him?

I LOVE Josh Freeman every time I watch him play ... but he needs to be somewhere with stronger QB coaching than what we have here. He has a huge arm. Has the build. And should be able to be a very solid QB.
But he LOVES taking risks and going yard on every play ... which would likely not jive well with our offense. I would not hate to see us take a shot at him and see what happens. He is certainly loaded in talent.
