Re: Joey Porter pleads no contest to battery
Is this another case of an athelete getting off to easy?Porter, who was not present in the courtroom, was fined $1,000, which was paid by attorney Karen Winckler. The case is now closed, said Kathy Karstedt, assistant to District Attorney David Roger.
Porter faced a maximum sentence of six months in jail and/or a $1,000 fine for punching Cincinnati Bengals left tackle Levi Jones in the face March 18 at a Las Vegas casino.
Suspend him

Still no updates on this huh?
Maybe the league is trying to make us forget that he did this.
I'm really gonna be pissed if he doesn't get at least 8 games.

Stop and think about it a bit, that would be wayyyyyyyy beyond the threshold already established by Goodell.

I don't think Goodell really set much of a threshold. He suspended a guy with multiple arrests, but no convictions for the season."Mr" wrote:

And a guy who had "an arsenal" of weapons in his home, is a convicted felon and did jail time.

PacMan Jones' suspension of a full season was due to multiple factors, not the least of which is that he failed - as per his contract - to inform the NFL and his team about 2 different arrests which he had last year, after the new conduct policy was enacted.
Tank Johnson's suspension was due to his violation of his probation following a conviction, as well as being involved in a shooting where his own bodyguard was killed.
Joey Porter (as far as I can tell) has had ONE incident since the beginning of 2006, this fight with Levi Jones.
Not equitable to the above two at all.
