Jeff Fisher on the way out

Report: Jeff Fisher on the way out in Tennessee

Weeks after Titans owner Bud Adams said head coach Jeff Fisher would return for the 2011 season, it appears that thatís no longer the case.

Don Banks of SI.com reports that the Titans and Fisher are preparing to part ways, and the move could be announced as early as Friday. Itís not clear whether theyíll call it a firing, a resignation or a mutual decision

Childress can now go to Tennessee with his KAO and resurrect the careers of Both Vince young and Turdvaris Jackson.

Hmmmm, thanks Vikinggreg, this is a big story in the NFL, if true. Long tenure, good coach, methinks Tennessee will go down, down to Chinatown Fokker, after this move. Can't imagine a better coach embracing that situation.

Jeff Fisher, Titans Recently Discovered They Just Weren't on Same Page

"Fisher, who had complete control over coaching staff moves, revealed to management this week that he had signed about a dozen of his assistants, including Cecil, to one-year contract extensions in mid-December," Wyatt wrote, adding, "That led to a series of meetings and the decision that it would be best to part ways."
It seems a little strange to bring a guy back and then undermind what he's trying to do, I wonder if Bud was just keeping Jeff from being picked up quickly by another team.

I was stunned by this. After Bud Adams said that VY wouldnt be back I believe, as many did, that Fisher was safe. Apparently the dispute came over the speed at which he was filling the remaing assistants positions as well as Fisher extending a dozen assistants including Chuck Cecil. Bud Adams and the Titans front office did not want Cecil back specifically. Since Fisher has final say on the roster and coaching staff this quickly became an adversarial negotitiating point.

I guess the other point was that Fisher wanted to hire his son. He apparently had been picking up some of the work for Mike Heimerdinger while he was receiving cancer treatments. Fisher thought that the work was good as well as his son who played at Montana got Marinelli (pro bowl KR) to come to the Titans this season.

    Weird times in the NFL........

I had posted earlier on a different thread that we should wait to see how this thing in Tennessee played out and grab Fisher if he becomes available. Now he is, but we have already committed to Frazier.
Now while I hope that Frazier turns out to be a great coach, I think we pulled the trigger too early and missed out maybe getting a guy who is a proven winner who just spent 16 years with the same team.
    Should've had patience...

I think it's worth noting, that Fisher's w/l record with the Titans is 142-120, or .541
Tice was .492, Childress was .519

It's not like he's led the Titans to consistent winning seasons. He's had some very good seasons, and some very very bad ones too.
