JaMarcus Russel shouldn't be a top five pick!

What? JaMarcus Russell isn't in the top five? Top 10? Pete Prisco says Russell is an impressive physical specimen, but he's not sold on the QB. Clark Judge concurs: WR Calvin Johnson should be the No. 1 draft pick.

Writers do this every year to attract attention to their column.
It sells more ads, and makes money for their employers (newspapers, news org, sports news service, etc. )

He should thank you for cooperating.

Haven't you seen similar types of sensationalism in several threads on this forum?; e.g. ....

I don't know much about Russel, but just watching the guy reminds me of Culpepper.

I watched him for three years here at LSU....
The similarities are pretty much across the board.
He picks apart weak defenses, when rushed will make some stupid decisions OR amazing throws (Favre-esk in that capacity).

He did make the clutch throws though...

i agree. He's basically a crappier version of Vince Young. No one thinks of him great and then he beats the number 1 qb in a bowl game who has a horrible game and suddenly he goes before Matt Leinart. Junior before senior

I hope he and Quinn are taken 1 & 2, that would push Calvin Johnson down to the board and make it a possibility to trade up to get him.
If he falls to #4 the price to pay would be worth the risk.

Most boards have Johnson going at #4 already with Russell, Thomas, Peterson going in the first three slots. Moving up to get him has already been posted to death here so check out some of the other threads on that subject.

I am not sure Russell belongs in the top five, he basically came out of nowhere based on the game vs. ND, but good QB's are hard to find so they always seem to go high in the draft.

    Bust?
    Perhaps.
    Perhaps not.
But you asked 'why not?', so that's one reason.

    P.Manning, R.Leaf, P.Rivers, D.Brees, C.McNown, A.Smith, Culpepper, V.Young, M.Leinhart, etc.
No one can tell which QB will develop and who will struggle and fail.
