JACKSONVILLE, Florida (Ticker) - Tackle Mike Williams hasn't lived up to his billing as the fourth overall pick in the 2002 draft. Now he gets a chance at a fresh start.

Less than two weeks after being released by the Buffalo Bills, Williams signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Tuesday.

The addition of Williams indicates that the Jaguars likely will not re-sign free agent tackle Mike Pearson, who struggled to come back from a knee injury last season.

Williams, 26, started just four games at right tackle for Buffalo last season before being moved inside to left guard.

"It's great to know that the Jaguars wanted me as a free agent and I have found a home here," Williams said. "My goals in Jacksonville are to become the dominant offensive tackle that I know I am, and in the process, help this team win games."

Since being selected fourth in the 2002 draft after David Carr, Julius Peppers and Joey Harrington, the 6-6, 370-pound Williams started 42 games in his first three seasons at right tackle before losing his job in 2005.

I think he will be ok.. They always seem to have pretty good lines

If he turns it around there, I will be PISSED that we didn't take a chance on him. Tice will probably turn him into a perennial Pro Bowler! GRRRRR!

i remember how many vikings fans wanted this guy so bad. we end up with mckinnie that year i think,

then people wanted duane robertson so bad and we got kevin williams.

and some people still cry about our free agency moves, and then they will cry about the draft also.

I think we've done fine, considering the Daunte distraction. Mike William would be a risk here. We have enough of those.
