I'VE GOT TICKETS TO THE SUPERBOWL!!!!
Holy Crap!
The past couple years I have posted threads here at PP.O talking about the NFL's random drawing for the Super Bowl and how to enter...
http://www.purplepride.org/forums/index.php?topic=30995.0
Well... I WAS ONE OF THE 365 PEOPLE SELECTED! I got my letter in the mail sometime while I was on vacation.BTW, I have no idea what the odds are.
I know that 1% of the seats are given out in the drawing.
UoP Stadium can expand up to 73,000 seats, which I assume it will for the SuperBowl.
That means that only 365 pairs of tickets will be given out.
Imagine my shock when I opened a strange, rather think envelope from the NFL and read the following lines:
Dear NFL Fan:
Congratulations! As a participant in our 2008 Super Bowl Random Drawing, you have been selected to purchase two (2) tickets for Super Bowl XLII in Phoenix, Arizona...
The tickets are at face value, which is $1400 for the pair.
Obviously I am going to purchase them.
Now I need to decide if it will be worth the extra expense to go the the game (air fare, hotel, car rental, meals, etc) or if I would be better off reselling them for a $1500-$2000 profit.
Any advice?
BTW, I have entered the random drawing every year for quite some time.
Everyone of you needs to start entering too.

Typical cheap NFL. Make you PAY for tickets you won on a drawing. Oh well, I guess you could always sell them for a profit which is what I'll bet most of the winners do if "their team isn't in the game.
But congratulations in the "win?"

;D
Only 1% of the tickets are open for public sale, so I am pretty happy with the "win".
The financially sound part of me knows I should resell them, since they can easily go for twice the purchase price.
But I doubt I will ever be lucky enough to get this opportunity again, regardless of who is playing.
I'm torn...Zeus wrote:

You've got to go to the superbowl. In the end you'll regret not going for a quick buck. It's one of the, if not the greatest sporting event in the world. Don't miss out.

Initially I thought so as well, but this actually makes sense. There should be more of a chance for the public to go.
Something like 35% of the tickets go to the two teams who are in the game, and most of those are resold to season ticket holders.
This makes sure that a) season ticket holders are rewarded for their longevity as ticket holders, and b) a good portion of the fans at the game are supporters for one of the two teams playing.
That makes for a better fan atmosphere.
Only about 20% are retained by the NFL for their marketing partners.Zeus wrote:

I ran around the house whooping it up with my kids.
My son still isn't exactly sure what we won, but he knows I am excited, so he is too... ;DZeus wrote:
