Re: It's time for a change
It is the only day I will watch the cowboys and lions. I am sure we can all put up with them for one day a year. And besides, it is tradition. No need to mess with it.
We're bringing purple back.

I'm tired of watching the Cowboys & Lions be the ones to play every year.
It's time for a change.
I say let the Lions and Cowboys host on Thanksgiving Day as long as they want.
Hell, I don't care if half the teams in the NFL decide they want to play on Thanksgiving Day (if you want viewers to have a better choice of games), but leave tradition alone.
It amazes me how many times people look back on the Old Met through nostalgic eyes and forget what a POS it was.
But I agree that Detroit and Dallas should have the Turkey Day games like they always have.
Maybe that is why the lawmakers haven't got the stadium deal done yet.
Vikings have always been second fiddle.
Back on topic, I like the tradition of the teams on Thanksgiving.
Dallas would be popular enough to hold of this criticism off, they are a popular enough team.
The only reason this is an issue is because the Lions Suck!
If the Lions didn't suck for so long, it wouldn't be an issue.
The Lions IMHO are in the process of finally turning it around.
They may not be a contender each year, but they are going to get better than the 1-15 and 2-14 seasons.
Let's root for the Lions to whoop-up on the Pack!
When was the last time we played the Lions on Turkey Day!
Seems like it was a long time ago, around 97ish.
We played Dallas right after that I think.

# In 1939 and 1940, President Roosevelt moved Thanksgiving one week earlier. Various states celebrated on the date declared by the President, while other states recognized the traditional fourth Thursday of the month. In 1941, Thanksgiving was sanctioned by Congress to be celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November which it has been ever since.

I'm totally ok with those guys having their tradition.
Even though I've never experienced the Met, I would love to have continued having it as opposed to the Dome.
I know, it was a POS..
But so was Yankee stadium before it got replaced last year.
They renovated Lamblow and Soldier field a few times.. it's not like we couldn't have done the same with the Met.
And we'd continue the greatness that is outdoor football.Vegans are eating the rainforests. =(

not only was the Met a POS, it wasn't even intended for football.
Look at the pictures:

The sidelines were about 30+ yards from the field.
The Grandstand was old, in major disrepair and had ALREADY been rennovated.
The little random bleachers in the endzones would have to be replaced with something actually usable.
The bleachers in the sideline to the righ had a zigzag of stairs to go up, No concourses, nothing.
They'd have to be replaced.
There were no private suites or anything, they'd have to be added.
Fans would actuallyw atch baseball through a fence underneath the grandstand
They were considering building the dome at the Met:

but that fell through
The Entire Grandstand would need to be replaced, you couldn't build around it, as many of the railings were breaking.
If things as obvious as those were in such disrepair, I wouldn't trust the rest of it to last.
It was historic, and I would have loved to still have games outside, but staying in the Met was really not an option.

Re: It's time for a change
Back on topic.... this thread is about TURKEY DAY football.
The Met has nothing to do with playing a football game in Dallas or Detroit.

Re: It's time for a change
Jones won't ever give it up.
It's a guarenteed nationally televised game each year with high ratings.
JJ seems to always get his way, so I doubt it will ever change.
Although I think it should.

I don't think det. and dallas will ever not host thanksgiving games.
BUT, they are adding a 3rd game in primetime, so there is change, or progress depending on which way you look at it.The ribbon is the 'Gulf War Ribbon'.

Agreed. This is a good enough compromise IMO. I think they did this mainly because the NFL Network begins airing Thursday night football beginning Week 10 each season, therefore viewers are getting another game on Thanksgiving. I think the third game between the Giants and the Broncos will be the best game out of the three (unless of course the Kitty Cats open up a can of whoop ass on Green Bay, which would make my holiday right there).I don't think det. and dallas will ever not host thanksgiving games.

Re: It's time for a change
I actually like that the Lions and Cowgirls are the focus that day.
As most of you know (well maybe you don't) I do almost all the cooking in the Marrdro/Wildwoman hovel.
No way in hell I could get it all put together in time if I was focusing on the "Pre-game" stuff if the Vikes were involved.
Hard enough just to get some wings, Mrs. Webby's dip, veggie tray and deviled eggs ready by noon for a sunday game.
On the "Time for a Change" idea.
Isn't that why they made the change to include a third game in 2006?
Keeps the tradition (love tradition) alive and adds a game that might have some excitement behind it.Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.

Re: It's time for a change
What about changing it to the winning team keeps the game for next year and can opt out if they want. That means that when the raiders own the cowboys today, next year the raiders get to host a thanksgiving game
We're bringing purple back.
