Put down the torches, folks. No reason to form an angry mob outside 4949 Centennial Blvd....

There shouldn't be an uproar about Bruce wearing number 80. The number isn't even retired yet.

The uproar that should made is why isn't Rice's number retired yet.

Marrdro thinks to himself,......Self, how many numbers have the 49'rs retired?

    16 - Joe Montana
    34 - Joe Perry
    37 - Jimmy Johnson

If you look at the guys from his era (Montana, Lott and to a lesser extent, Clark), they all retired long before Rice.
He's only been out of the game for 3 seasons.

Thanks to Josdin for the awesome sig!

Does your research tell us if any of them wore the number after it was retired, not the player?

You thinking they are probably gonna wait until he is in the HOF then?
Seems odd to me though but I can understand that rationale.

    I don't know about that.
Dwight Clark isn't in the HoF.
    I think maybe it's a timing issue.
Bet you a Beast Light that it happens this season after this brouhaha!

I don't bet beer, waste of time, I like to buy it to much and give it out freely.
    ;D

Besides, I bet you might be right.
Wonder what the odds are of someone really wearing it this year?
Will the fans have a say in Bruce wearing?
    Gonna be fun to watch.
