If they lose the first postseason game I would fire Childress in a second.
And depending on how things turn out I might would do it anyway.
The way he handled the end of yesterday's game had me steaming.
But, we still have great personnel, and maybe Childress can't even screw that up.

Regardless, the regular season was a very good one.
Okay, I liked this topic until the Childress comment.
    Why would you fire Childress?
What did he do the end of yesterday's game that you would fire him for?

I just don't think he is a great coach.
I'm still hoping he proves me wrong.
The time management at the end of the Giant's game was terrible.
He froze up like Denny Green.
And there were several points during the season where he had me pulling my hair out.

But, depending on how we finish the season, I could change my mind.
I think we should see how he handles the pressure of the postseason.
    I love lamp.

Fair enough but explain what you didn't like about his time management.

    Mostly his indecision.
    It was embarrassing really.
First the let 20 seconds off the clock and call a timeout.
Obviously he wanted to kick a field goal.
    I'd be okay with that.
Not the best decision, but acceptable.
But then he decides, after the Giants call a time out to ice Longwell, that we would run another play.
Kind of a risk when you only have 9 seconds left.
Luckily T-Jack was smart enough to kinda throw it away towards the sideline when no one was open.

It kinda reminded me of earlier in the season when he called a timeout, to think about if he wanted to throw the challenge flag or not.
    I love lamp.

I understand your point however I don't blame him for doing the extra play with 9 seconds left.
That play is designed to get them a few extra yards by the sidelines to go OOB or if it is not there to throw the ball OOB where no one would get it.
Really it was TJ being extra careful with the throw.
    Not a bad decision IMO.
Most coaches would do that anyway.

He waited all that time to call a TO to take time off the clock.
If the kick was unsuccessful we wouldn't have had time to get the ball back anyway so why give the Giants anytime on the clock if we do get the FG?

Re: I couldn't be happier about how this season turned out

Why didn't he just make the decision immediately.
Why did he have to wait until the Giants called a timeout to change his mind?
Everyone was confused, including the players and the coaches.
It was chaos on the sideline.
    Even Longwell looked pissed.
I think he should have called the timeout immediately, and then we'd have enough time to comfortably run any play we wanted.
And still have time to stop the clock and kick a field goal.

It does seem silly for me to argue about this, considering we won the game.
But those are the times when coaches need to be decisive.
He looked so nervous on the sideline.
Like Dennis Green looked against the Falcons in 98.
    I love lamp.

I've seen guys like you before......

First you want him to show improvement........

After that you just want to have a winning season.......

After that you just want them to get in the playoffs........

Next it will be He has to win a playoff game........

And Ultimately, you will be posting......

He has to win a SB before I will think he is great.

    Comeon my friend.
He has his issues but so far the team is better, has more depth, has a 10-6 record, is in the playoffs etc etc etc.

At some point even the biggest of doubter would/will have to admit that he is getting the job done.

Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v343/josdin00/Vikings/Marrdro_sig.jpg

I don't think you are silly for debating the point.
    You have a valid point.
The only issue I have is none of us know his reasoning for doing what he did.
    We all are speculating.
But it seems some of us try to find every little thing that happens and turn it into a Childress doesn't know WTF he's doing statement.
I don't blame the guy for taking his time to make certain decisions.
If he were to make a hasty decision and we lose then everyone would be all over that too.
I can't tell you how nervous he looked.
That just may be his silly expression he always has.
I don't remember seeing him look nervous so I can't comment on that.
    Who knows?
What I can tell you is everything worked out very well.
Each decision he made turned out great.
    Waiting to call a TO.
Taking more time off the clock to get it down to 5 seconds.
    It all worked out.
