the only reason anybody questions coughlin as a coach is because they buy into tiki barber's bitching and whining
    Tiki doesn't have a ring.
That was probably the best thing to happen to the Giants, his early retirement.
exactly..hes bitter, now you see him trying to pry his foot from his mouth
People who see life as anything more than pure entertainment are missing the point.

Coaching my ass, it was getting rid of "cry baby" tiki....Man I hate that guy, and his butt buddy Jeremy Shockey getting hurt that allowed Eli to calm down and play within himself and actually take over a true leader roll.
I truly believe if Shockey is not injured and Tiki didn't retire it would have been another team in the SB for the NFC.
Of course we will never know but hey, it's just the way I feel about it.

Must ... resist... Meathead Tice... comments...

Coughlin finally gets his due praise.
The guy was a great coach with the expansion Jags. If the coach of the year award was presented after the pro-bowl, Coughlin would have gotten it despite Bilicheck's amazing 16-0 season.

Coughlin's old school philosophy is refreshing to see in this "me first" world that the NFL has become.
Coughlin doesn't cottle his superstars like a lot of coaches do.
F tivi barber and his arrogant buddy Jeremy Shockme ll.l

People always mention how Eli could settle down and play once those jokers were out of the line up (which is true). However, what really made the difference was that Plaxico stopped buying into their loudmount BS and just went out and played with Eli.

I am still a little surprised at seeing him in the top 5...but upon reading this, I really can't argue. I never thought he was a bad coach...actually I liked his disciplined approach to the game (reminded me of Gene Hackman in "Hoosiers"). And this year he supposedly gave in a little bit and was not his usual tough guy. Funny how a coach can so quickly go from being vilified in the press to one of the tops in the game (along with a 4-yr contract for $21M)!

    Yes indeed.
Yesterday a goat, today a hero.
That site that keeps track of head coaching ratings by their fans is a good measure of how fast they rise and fall in the minds of many.
