How are Eli Manning's comments different than those of T.O.?
Eli Manning said he would not play for the Chargers if they drafted him, essentialy coercing the team into trading him to the Giants. Its interesting to see how everyone is ripping TO for being self-righteous as well. I know Manning didn't quite receive the negetive press TO is getting right now. I realize these are not two completely parallel issues, but I thought it might make for some interesting discussion.
Any thoughts? Does this boil down to race (not to seem propagandaish)? or are these issues not completely parallel? Or is it because Eli is a Manning and well TO is TO? Or what? Thoughts?
Re: How are Eli Manning's comments different than those of T.O.?
Well to me its not about ethnicity... because I think they both are complete jerks for doing what they did. I respect them both because they play good football but they both acting very childish. It just happens that T.O. did a lot more then Eli. So that is why I think T.O. is being blamed more and has more negative press.
Re: How are Eli Manning's comments different than those of T.O.?
Eli was ripped last year. What generally happens is people get ripped by the media when they do stuff like that, then people forget if they play well. Since T.O. seems to be saying/doing stuff like this on a weekly basis, people have a hard time forgetting.
So far Eli has had only 1 strike vs. 654 strikes for Owens.
That being said, I am not a fan of either of them,
Re: How are Eli Manning's comments different than those of T.O.?
i think these are two totally different situations, but this could relate to T.O. not wanting to go to the ravens because i think those two situations are very similar

I also agree with you....race does not play into the equation.
Re: How are Eli Manning's comments different than those of T.O.?
I think it weighed on Archie's decision.. he didn't want his kid to play for a losing team. Surprisingly, the Chargers did just fine without the robot who abided by daddy's orders.
Re: How are Eli Manning's comments different than those of T.O.?
Good point....I kinda forgot about TO not wanting to go the Ravens.....that is probaly a better comparision to Manning than T.O. recent antics.
Re: How are Eli Manning's comments different than those of T.O.?
TO chose to go to Phily then was a stinker about it.
Eli was fighting something he had no control over.
When it came down to it, Eli and Peyton didn't want to play in the same Conference. The Manning family didn't want it to go down like that.
I can see a difference. Eli did take some heat for it if he would have held out and if SD wouldn't have traded him to NYG.
Re: How are Eli Manning's comments different than those of T.O.?
It's about track records.
TO has a track record of this behavior (and worse), opposed to Eli's one instance.
Re: How are Eli Manning's comments different than those of T.O.?
Yeah.....maybe Archie didn't want Eli to take the beating he took - especially in 84' when he started some games for the Vikes. I think Archie holds the record for most sacks taken by a Viking Qb in a single game.
