Have we seen the end of the New England dynasty?
Cold, Hard Football Facts for July 22, 2009

Is the New England dynasty over? It’s one of the burning issues in pro football as Tom Brady, Bill Belichick & Co. prepare to enter training camp and prepare to reset the clock after a disastrous 2008 calendar year.

We don't know the answer, really. But we do know that nothing lasts forever – not even seemingly indestructible pro football dynasties.
Interesting article.

Good article - My bet is that NE still has some gas left in the tank.
They've been able to keep dynasty status with a near revolving door of players over the past several years...that alone is pretty damn impressive, even if I do dislike them very much.

Re: Have we seen the end of the New England dynasty?

Very interesting
look at other dynasties. The Vikings are credited with ending the Packers run.

However, I wouldn't bet against the Patriots just yet, as long as Belichick is there and has access to video cameras.

Best part of the article:

The 1960s Packers
The game that ended it all: Vikings 26, Packers 13 (Week 2, 1968)
Vince Lombardi retired from pro football (for a year, anyway) after the 1967 season and after leading the Packers to three straight NFL championships and to victory in the first two Super Bowls.

The dynasty wasted no time drowning in his wake.

The Packers opened the post-Lombardi Era with a solid 30-13 win over the Eagles. But by the end of Week 2, it was evident that something was very, very wrong here in Green Bay.

The Vikings, for example, had struggled since joining the league in 1961 and were a dismal 3-8-3 in 1967.

But by the end of this game, we had discovered that Bud Grant's Vikings were a force to reckon with (and they would remain so over the next decade). We aso learned that Phil Bengston's Packers had rolled over and died. The Vikings raced out to a 16-0 lead – a Jim Marshall sack of the great Bart Starr for a safety adding insult to injury – and easily outmuscled the Packers. In fact, Minnesota sported a nifty 26-6 lead before Starr connected with Carroll Dale for a late TD.

The result reverberated across the upper Midwest and across the young Black & Blue Division. The Vikings beat the Packers again in November and cruised to an 8-6 record, their first division crown and their first postseason appearance. The Packers finished 6-7-1, their first losing season of the decade. Nothing was ever the same for the organization:

• [li]The Packers won five NFL championships in the seven years before losing to the Vikings.[/li]
[li]The Packers have won one NFL championship in the 40 years since losing to the Vikings. [/li]

I think an 11-5 team that is adding one of, if not thee, greatest QB of all time should be fine. They may never win another superbowl, but I think they will be contenders for a while yet.

The New England Dynasty. I would say as of now no not at all as long as they keep the hoodie.
I can see maybe 1 more Super Bowl if they get that last one maybe Belli-cheat walks away.

Its crazy to think that right now.

Nah, it still highlights the fact that the Packers have indeed won championships.

Re: Have we seen the end of the New England dynasty?

To sum up the question in one simple word.
NO.
With Moss and Brady on the same team I don't care who you are they will be an elite squad for a few years to come still.
Like in Madden when Chris Collinsworth comments on Randy Moss, sure the guy might have lost a step but when you run the 40 in 4.2 or 4.3 seconds and you lose a step you are still running a 4.4 or 4.5 making you one of the fastest guys in the league.
With that said, no chance they are a dying dynasty, IMO.

Re: Have we seen the end of the New England dynasty?

Ya'll can talk about Moss, Brady, Welker, etc.

The the NE dynasty is dependant on Belichick, when he goes so goes the dynasty.
Because there are lots of players that go there to play for Belichick.

Also, Belichick likes to cheat, which always helps a dynasty
