    Gus Frerotte cut in STL

    http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ms-frerotte022708&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

    & PFT

Michael Silver of Yahoo! Sports reports that the
Rams will be cutting the cord on quarterback Gus Frerotte.
He had been serving as the backup to Marc Bulger.
How about bringing back a former Vike..

    I'd rather have Volek.
Gus is getting pretty old now and he's not really that great.
However, if either Volek, Lemon, Collins or Carr don't come here, he'd probably be next on my list.

Todd Collins?? If the Redskins don't re-sign him for whatever reason we should go after him....Heck....He would give T.Jack some serious competition in T.Camp...might even beat him out??? He's better than Holcomb and Bollinger too.

    Cheers!

    I'd still rather have Volek.
The guy is good, check out his stats, and he has one of the better deep balls also.
He could come in, easilly beat Bollinger and Probably even Jackson.

I'm looking at it by playing time as a starter....experience in the League, and stats. Todd Collins numbers are not to shabby either....If it was between Volek and Collins???? Would you automatically take Volek?? I'm not so sure I would not really think about which guy would offer more in our type of offense and in a Mentor role for T.Jack. Also money could be an issue. How much is either of these guys worth to us?? Which one would be the most bang for the buck?

    Cheers!

Re: Gus Frerotte cut in STL

If the pay was equal, i would take Volek.
Aside from the last few games, Todd Collins hasn't started a game since 1997.

Todd Collins around since 1995 age 36, arm starting to weaken
    G:44 GS:20 pct:56.7% td:22 int:19 rate: 76.2 yds:4335

Billy Volek around since 2000 age 31 arm still strong
    G:30 GS:10 pct:59.7% td:26 int:14 rate:84.9
    yds:3515

so by looking at those stats, Todd Collins has been around longer and played in more games.
He's thrown for 800 more yards in 14 more games.

Voleks pct is better, total td's and ints are better and rating is better

Volek is only 31 and still has years left in the tank.
Collins is nearing the age to hang it up and call it a career.

I think Volek is a much better player than Collins.

I think Gus is a great guy to bring in as a second or third QB.
It was my impression, perhaps false, that he was instrumental to Daunte's progress a few years ago.
Unlike Brad Johnson, Gus seems willing to accept the role of backup and then help the starter with recognition of what defenses are doing, reads, etc.

I actually wouldn't mind having Gus in as a backup for the right price. I guess he wouldn't have Moss though to just throw the ball up to.

I get the most pissed off looks from people with my VKG 4 LFE Wisconsin license plate, and I LOVE IT!!
