Goodell on rookie pay: 'There's something wrong
Goodell on rookie pay: 'There's something wrong
CHAUTAUQUA, N.Y. -- NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said its "ridiculous" to reward untested rookies with lucrative contracts and wants the issue addressed in contract talks.
"There's something wrong about the system," Goodell said Friday. "The money should go to people who perform."

about time that someone starts to address this... now to wait for the agents and players union to start bitching and whining about this.Time spent annoying a Packer fan is never time wasted...

I hope that something is done about it.
Why make these kids rich if they aren't going to do anything to improve your team?
Even league minimums are more than most people make in 5 years.
You play a kids game... stop your bitchin and play the game.

Re: Goodell on rookie pay: 'There's something wrong
Its about time.
I wonder what they will do with existing rookie contracts.
Seems a little unfair that just because a guy is a year older, he gets a 35mil signing bonus for being #1 overall instead of a measly few mil that they might start giving out.

Good.
The rookie contracts have needed to be addressed for a long f-ing time.
Good on you Goodell.Zeus wrote:

I guess the league would have to set a year and the kids coming into the draft will have to deal with it.. course if they don't like it then they could always get a 9-5 job like the vast majority of people do now.Its about time.

Will be interesting to see if this did happen what impact it would have on teams trading draft picks. Maybe teams will be keener to draft and develop players that much more.Time spent annoying a Packer fan is never time wasted...

It'll make the young kids work harder to get the big contract, and it will give teams a chance to develope players rather than throwing them in too soon because they're making too much money to ride the bench.

Re: Goodell on rookie pay: 'There's something wrong
Would be interesting... instead of incentive pay they would have incentive renegotiation/ early restricted FA clauses.
Players like AD would be able to renegotiate after 2 years... Where players like TWill will be stuck with a much smaller contract.
I hope it happens, because all that $$$ saved could go to keeping vet players like Birk.

Nice try on the derailing of the thread tho
The fact remains that the rookie pay scale is retarded.
