GM says Culpepper would start now

Stafford's spot unknown Lions rookie minicamp

BY CARLOS MONARREZ • FREE PRESS SPORTS WRITER • May 4, 2009

After three days of rookie minicamp, Lions coach Jim Schwartz would not rank quarterback Matthew Stafford's position on the depth chart.

But general manager Martin Mayhew, though noting it is early in the off-season, conceded that veteran quarterback Daunte Culpepper would be considered the starter right now....

An in-shape Daunte is a better option to win games right now than a green as hell Stafford.
Why not have the kid sit and learn behind a vet, like Palmer did behind Kitna?
Gives him more time to adjust to the NFL speed (close as the SEC is) and to learn the offense a little more...get more comfortable with everything.

Stafford was just drafted like 2 weeks ago?
Kind of a "no shit" article

Agreed, its not a good situation.
You sit and learn for a year, then there will be less attention on him.
Granted, if he does play this year, there will be absolutely no pressure.
If he wins one game, they improve from last year.

If he starts and wins one game he will be hailed as the next Matt Ryan by the Loins (yes the loins, loincloth).
Those Detroit fans will be able to take off their paperbags and instead use a ziplock bag so they can watch the game for brief moments, then pass out.
