    Gannon Retires

    From KFFL:

Raiders | Gannon to Retire Today
    Sat, 6 Aug 2005 06:22:50 -0700

Kevin Tresolini, of the Daily News Journal, reports Oakland Raiders QB Rich Gannon will announce his formal retirement from the NFL Saturday, August 6. Football has been such an important part of my life," said Gannon, who will head to a CBS-TV booth this fall. "I'm so passionate about the game that this is difficult. The neck injury made the decision simple, but it's still bittersweet."

I was a huge Gannon fan while he was in Minnesota. I always thought it was a bad idea that he was let go in the early 90's. I'm glad he went on to have a good career elsewhere.

Too bad he was not that good for us as he was with Oakland.

    Re: Gannon Retires

Stat-wise, his numbers in '91 as a Viking were on par with the rest of his career averages in KC and Oakland. He could have had many good years as a Viking if given the chance. But, obviously Dennis Green didn't like something in the guy and got rid of him pretty quickly...and instead, Coach Green opted for a musical chairs-like rotation of QB's throughout the 90's which some could say was somewhat succesful (and others can say was a mild failure until '98). In either case though, I still like the guy (Gannon that is, not Green).

And on a side note, kinda funny how two of the QB's Green got rid of in the 90's both played against each other in a Super Bowl (and it's reassuring that we have the winner of that game now as our back-up).

He should have retired as a viking since he sucked sooo much when he was here.
