Sep. 27, 2006
CBS SportsLine.com wire reports
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The New England Patriots re-signed cornerback Hank Poteat on Wednesday after placing Randall *** on the injured reserve list with a hamstring injury.
An undrafted free agent, *** became a starter as a rookie in 2004.
Last season, Poteat was signed by the Patriots after injuries decimated the secondary. He played in 10 regular-season and two playoff games, recording 24 tackles and 20 solo tackles.
The 28-year-old Poteat first joined the Patriots in January 2005 and, despite having not played that season, appeared in three playoff games, including the Super Bowl victory over Philadelphia.
Entering his sixth NFL season, Poteat's played in 52 career regular-season games and seven playoff games, including action with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
