    Friday Morning Tight End

There is a site for NFL fans in the UK and they will be having weekly columnists writing. One of the guys writing is Mark Carlson who is a co-presenter on Channel 5's MNF and Sunday night games. He has quite a dry sense of humour and will be previewing the weekly games. At the bottom is the link for this weeks preview, but for those interested in the NFCN teams here is his comments

    Tampa Bay at Minnesota

The Vikes are a popular pick to go most of the way this year, mostly because Mike Tice needs the extra money the Super Bowl tickets will bring. By the way, I hear a few good seats at the Metrodome are still available for this game too. The Vikes have upgraded their D, giving Ted Cottrell the tools he needs, but of course the big question is how do they replace Randy Moss? ‘I knew Randy Moss sir, and Koren Robinson is no Randy Moss’. Though when Robinson drops balls, they’ll bounce higher in the Dome.

If you watch Five you’ll know that Nate Burleson is one of our faves, and not just because he chose the same name as my son. They also need to replace the Whizzinator, Onterrio Smith, with one or more of Michael Bennett, Melwede Moore or One Guy Named Moe Williams. The Bucs had a good draft, added Paul Hackett to keep their pass game short, and Cadillac Williams to run the ball. Why isn’t Auburn in the NFC South? Pick: Minnesota.

    Chicago at Washington

The Bears defense has looked great, which ought to be interesting for the Skins, who will try to block their run game to suit Clinton Portis and establish a passing game to suit the NFL.

Jerry Azumah is a big loss for Chicago. The Bears will start rookie Kyle Orton at QB, which is a step up from Craig Krentzel. The Skins will start Patrick Ramsey, which is a step up from Danny Wuerrfel but you get the feeling Jason Campbell is only keeping the headset warm for Ramsey. Last season the Skins finished 6-10 under Joe Gibbs, Steve Spurrier could’ve done that! Pick: Who cares? Just kidding. Washington.

    Green Bay at Detroit

This is shaping up as Brett’s Last Stand season. Every season is that for Joey Harrington. Maybe the Lions should drafted Joey Hetherington. She was married to Lance Rentzel, and probably understood pass patterns just as well as the other Joey.

The Lions have added big time receivers, and bulked up their D. Jim Bates is an instant improvement for the Packers’ defense, but they may be outmanned here. Will Favre miss former Scottish Claymore Marco Rivera and Mike Wahle, their Pro Bowl pair of guards? Pick: Green Bay
