Former Vikings CB Killed in Shootout
RICHMOND, Va. -- Michael Brim, a former Virginia Union University standout cornerback who spent eight seasons in the NFL, died Tuesday in a shootout with another man. He was 39.
Richmond police said Thursday that Brim had been involved in a dispute with Gary Miles, 42, over a woman. Police found Brim about 10 p.m. with a fatal gunshot wound to the chest in Miles' brother's driveway.
Miles suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, police said. He was listed in serious condition Thursday at VCU Medical Center.
Brim and Miles had gotten into an argument at the American Karate Center where Miles worked earlier Tuesday, said police spokeswoman Cynthia Price. She said Brim followed Miles to his brother's home in a quiet, residential neighborhood in south Richmond.
When Miles got out of his car, Brim shot at him several times, Price said. Miles returned fire, striking Brim in the torso.
Price said Miles' brother returned home to find both cars running and the two wounded men on the ground.
No charges have been filed, and the case remains under investigation.
Brim, a Danville native, was a fourth-round selection of the Phoenix Cardinals in the 1988 NFL draft. He went on to play for Detroit, Minnesota, the New York Jets and ended his career with the Cincinnati Bengals. He suffered a career-ending injury in 1995.
Brim leaves behind a wife and four children.

Unless the woman he was fighting over was HIS WIFE, Brim had no business following that other dude to his brother's house and shooting at him...at the risk of being politically incorrect, it seems that he got what he deserved! Too bad for his innocent wife and kids, however...that is the REAL tragedy!!!
