CHARLOTTE - Jason Carter had been one of the emerging "finds" throughout the Carolina Panthers' offseason workouts and in training camp.

Now, the Panthers will have to find someone else to emerge at wide receiver -- and maybe punt returner, too.

The Panthers put Carter on Injured Reserve yesterday after he suffered a season-ending knee injury in the team's 47-3 preseason victory against Washington on Saturday night. He tore the anterior-cruciate ligament in his right knee after returning a punt 30 yards in the fourth quarter.

"He had a real strong possibility of making our football team," Coach John Fox said yesterday. "My heart goes out to him because I know that's tough. But if he works like that, he'll be back next year."

I always liked him in pre-season highlights.

I like Jason, and always thought he could make it somewhere. He has gotten better every year, and when he was about to make a club.....What a shame. Dang injuries.

He is running out of chances to be The Next Randy Moss.

He was one player that I really wanted to make the cut for the Vikes last season. This is too bad though, he's so young.
