Explaining the 'team decision' twist to the new injury report

EXPLAINING THE "TEAM DECISION" TWIST TO THE NEW INJURY REPORT
    pft.com

Several readers have asked us to explain one of the aspects of the new injury reporting system.
For players who do not participate in practice, or who have limited participation, one of the available explanations is "team decision."

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello tells us that the "team decision" designation means that the player is not injured.

"He did not practice or was limited in practice because the player had to miss practice for personal reasons or the team is resting him during the week because he's a veteran," Aiello said.

Aiello also explained the purpose of the new midweek reports, which focus not on labels but whether and to what extent the player practiced.

"The goal is to base the mid-week reports on facts – extent of practice participation due to injury or other reasons – rather than the more subjective categories of probable, questionable, doubtful," Aiello said via e-mail.
"On Friday, the teams must put the players into those categories so fans can get a better idea from the teams of whether the player will participate in the upcoming game."

So when, for example, Pats receiver Randy Moss appeared on the Thursday injury report as having limited participated in practice due to a "team decision," it meant that Moss is not injured.
So unless he suffered some type of injury during his limited participation in practice on Thursday, he should not be listed as probable, questionable, or doubtful on Friday.

Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please. Mark Twain
