Dolphins begin talks with Jake Long

Dolphins begin talks with Jake Long

By Jason Cole, Yahoo! Sports
6 hours, 23 minutes ago

The Miami Dolphins began preliminary talks Tuesday with a representative of Michigan offensive tackle Jake Long on a contract to be the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL draft, according to two sources close to the discussions. However, Miami’s early move could be used as leverage to put pressure on Long or one of the other top prospects to get a deal done before the draft.

smart move by them

they are taking (who i think) is the best overall player in this draft

starting negotiations now is REAL smart because look what jamarcus pulled last year holding out throughout training camp

they should put a cap on their contracts, its just ridiculous how an unproven player who has yet to play in the NFL gets that much money

I wish we could draft this guy. He would really help TJ out.

No they shouldn't, if the teams are willing to pay that's how it goes.
If they enact some sort of stupid rule like that I think you'll start to see top picks demanding one year contracts instead.
Those "unproven" rookies are what brings fans to the games for a lot of rebuilding teams, so other people get the ticket sales and jersey sales but the rookie should have a cap?
The NFL brought this on themselves paying these contracts, they can't just say it's not ok anymore.

i pray everyday that Bill Parcells has the balls to break this bullshit top end pay scale they have in place now for rookies.
It's gotten to the point where the arguement for contracts is "my client deserves X+3%
because the guy last year got X amount of money. Give us that or we hold out."
Fuck that.

well if they are not gonna put a cap on the contracts, there should be some sort of rule that can make most of the rook's contract salary in incentives, give them very low guarenteed money.Look at Brady Quinn being(what it looks like) a longterm backup, thats a little ridiculous

Absolutely they should have a cap.
Fans come to the games on the rebuilding teams because these rookies bring potential and hope NOT because they got $60M contract with $35M guaranteed.
Its a system that will continue to cripple "rebuilding teams".
NBA has a rookie cap.
That didn't stop the hype for Greg Oden and Kevin Durant this year.

Look at Detroit, they are carrying $15M in Dead money this year because of this retarded pay system.
Its a system that can cripple a franchise.
The funny thing is, they only need to fix the top half of round 1.

And yes the league can say 'ok no more'.
