    Re: A dis on Hovan

Del, I had to watch Hovan do nothing last year! If he would not gotten good stats but at least was a factor in the games or would have held his own against single coverage, I would not have been on him.

    BUT HE DID NOT!

So the same goes for Pat, if his numbers are not good but he is holding the line and pushing around the lineman he is facing, that is fine.

If he has good numbers, but he is not holding the line and teams are running over us, then pull him.

If he does not have number and he is getting his a$$ kicked then get someone that can.

But I am at least going to give him a couple of games before I say he is the worst pickup we made, I am giving him a chance!

And Del, come on you can admit finally that Hovan sucked! He will be out of the league after this year!!

Fat Pat is the second coming of Jerry Ball, who not coincidentally, was on the last effective Vikes defense.

How can I admit a guy who made it to the NFL and played above his potential for at least a few years, in a league that the majority of players don't last five years sucks?

I think the guy has mental issues. I think he was off his meds and he was trying to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders. I never said he was great.

But I will never say that he sucks, only because on some level I know how hard it is to play that position. His heart dropped out and he was going through the motions.

Even if he is out of the NFL, I would still consider him an over achiever.

I wouldn't argue that. Jerry Ball played his best ball for another team too.

Jason Fisk was on our team at this time too. LOL.

I would attribute our LIMITED defensive success to a group of good LB's and a very talented line including Randle, Doleman, and Clemons.

I can't disagree he will play the same role, I just find that role to be useless. It's an attempt to make up for a lack of LB skill with a very one dimentional player. So far this preseason he can't even do that one dimention very well. Out of all the snaps I have recorded he was very rarely past the line of scrimmage. A few times he was damn near the LB's and that is a no no.

Del, are we going to argue all year about Pat williams like we did all last year about Hovan? I have to say I won that one, as they benched him and then released him as soon as the season was over.

Tice was trying to take the heat off Hovan because the guy was losing it and Tice was trying to keep his head together.

Everybody know he was terrible, and his play showed it! Are you now trying to condemn Pat because I argued with you about Hovan last year?

He has played in 2 preseason games for less than a half, total! He is considered one of the best defensive tackles in the game! He is not a pass rusher, he is a run stopper and I like having a big fat guy in the middle to clog it up!

Better than having Hovan in there to get his a$$ shoved around my every lineman he faced!

I guess time will tell how he does, but I think you are being a little crittical at least I gave Hovan 4 years before I blasted him.
In your own post above you just stated that it isn't fair to judge yet because Pat only played a few series in only two preseason games well the same with Hovan he only played very small amounts in a couple games so perhaps we should wait until the season starts and get a good look at if he does anything better for Tampa before you write him totally off and no I am not going to argue whether he sucks or not just pointing out that it isn't exactly fair to judge one guy because he has only one tackle in very limited playing time and then defend someone else using the little playing time excuse.

Del Rio if you don't like Pat Williams that much who would you rather see start because we have nobody who can do better. Darrion Scott is our starting defensive end and Spencer Johnson is not the answer to help improve the line.

I a 50/50 with Del Rio on this.
I definitely don't think Fat Pat is a god send, but I do think he is a very capable DT. I think DT is a spot where we could easily get a similar player for a lot less money though ... and a younger player at that.
I also think Hovan was an overachiever for a year or two and then could not hold the weight everyone put on him to carry the defense. Hovan did more than he should have been able to do in this league and I wish him luck in T.B.

Spencer Johnson is a good tackle from what I have seen. I wouldn't be surprised to see Scott step in at DT midway through if needed he has a lot of experience playing both positions. James will end up starting at end no doubt.

I don't have a problem with Pat personaly I just don't like the team bringing in such a one dimensional player. He's here and he is playing for us, and I will root for him just like the rest of the team.

I just haven't been too fond of what I have seen from him so far. The only reason I'm affraid of what I have seen is that it confirms my thoughts that he will be very limited in his effectiveness.

Like I said I'll wait until he starts playing some games that count before I shed too many tears over him.

There is a reason we are or have tried out Eric Coleman, David Harley, Matt Mitrione, and C.J. Mosely. We have a ton of DT's on our team.

Little Rehead, I have been missing you and then you come back and lambaste me!!

How you doing beautiful? Miss ya, and hope you will be posting more!

The only thing I want to say on your post above is I watched Hovan every game for 5 years and know what he is capable of. And I have seen Pat play, but not every game. I have not singled him out to see how he plays every down like I have with Hovan.

And from what Hovan has done the last 3 seasons, he will not make it in the NFL. Plus I like to tease Del Rio and get him worked up, it is fun!!
