National Football League star Randy Moss has dropped Charleston lawyer Dante di Trapano as his agent, according to the NFL Players Association.

The Oakland Raiders wide receiver signed an agreement on April 20 to make Tim DiPiero, of DiTrapano, Barrett & DiPiero PLLC, his sole agent.

DiPiero said Monday that the switch indeed happened, but he would not comment on the reasons.

    - advertisement -“That would not be appropriate for me — not at the current time,” he said.

Di Trapano and his wife, Teri, were arrested in Florida in March on one felony crack cocaine possession charge each. He later told the Gazette they were innocent. They were released on bond, and he was admitted to a rehab facility.

Last month, law enforcement officers searched the di Trapanos’ home and found drug paraphernalia and prescription painkillers, according to a federal search warrant.

State Police arrested Teri di Trapano and their son, Zachary, over the weekend. He was charged with underage alcohol consumption and she was charged with obstructing police.

DiTrapano, Barrett & DiPiero has distanced itself from Dante di Trapano, taking his name off the sign outside the Charleston offices and removing his biography, but not his name from its Web site.

After Moss’ switch, Dante di Trapano does not represent any NFL players, according to the NFLPA.

Moss, who grew up in Rand, is scheduled to open a fruit smoothie shop in Kanawha City this month.

He graduated from DuPont High School and played two years for Marshall. He played for the Minnesota Vikings from 1998 to 2004 before being traded to the Oakland Raiders last year.

DiPiero has represented Moss as an agent and attorney dating back to 1995, when Moss was charged with kicking a classmate in a highly publicized altercation at DuPont. He later pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery. DiPiero and Moss met shortly before the incident playing basketball at the YMCA, according to a newspaper profile of DiPiero.

It baffles me why it took him so long to get rid of this guy. I'd have canned him the very moment he were picked up for crack possesion.

Thanks to PPE for the sig.

It has nothing to do with loyalty. This is a professional relationship.

Thanks to PPE for the sig.

He wasn't in search of a new contract, so the agent wouldn't be doing much for him anyway right now. He probably was just waiting it out for a while to see if things got better, they didn't, so he canned him.

    Thanks Lotza!
